Stewart "Red" Faught was an outstanding quarterback for legendary Indiana State coach Wally Marks and at the time of his induction was in his 29th season as head coach of Franklin College. A native of Sullivan, Indiana, where he played for coach Paul "Spike" Kelly, Red was an outstanding prep player before entering ISU.
Red was Coach Marks' starting signal-caller in 1946 and 1947 and was the squad's "Most Valuable Player" his senior season. His 60-yard touchdown pass to Max Woolsie at Illinois Wesleyan not only won the contest but set the school and field record. He graduated from the University in 1948 and earned his Master's Degree from ISU in 1957. Following graduation, he taught and coached at Clinton, Linton and South Bend Riley.
In 1957, Coach Faught joined the faculty of Franklin College and has served as a Professor of Physical Education, head track coach, athletic director and head football coach. His 29 year tenure as head football mentor included nearly 150 career wins, NAIA District "Coach of the Year" honors five times, and a 1972 victory in the Mineral Water Bowl. Hall of Fame inductions are nothing new to Red as he previously has been honored by the NAIA and Indiana Football Halls of Fame.
Coach Faught has long been recognized for his aerial attack on the football field. Two former Franklin College quarterbacks were on NFL rosters at season's start, and one, Pat Brennan, holds 13 NCAA Division II passing records.
