James H. Carr was an outstanding athlete at Indiana State University and compiled an exemplary record at Rose-Hulman.

Tagged "Gentleman Jim" by his associates, he was  connected with Rose-Hulman for 28 years and coached or assisted in every sport except track during his tenure.

Jim Carr was a 1932 graduate of Terre Haute Wiley High School where he captained the Red Streaks and twice led them to the basketball state finals.  He also competed in football and baseball at Wiley.

At Indiana State he was a standout basketball and baseball player and also lettered as a javelin thrower. He was captain of Coach Wally Marks' 1936 basketball team and helped the Sycamores compile a 24-7 record during his junior and senior seasons. Jim was the baseball Bigwood Award winner in 1936 and also received his I-Men's Blanket that year.
