Patricia “Trish” Porter Buttice, a 1976 graduate of Indiana State University, played for ISU women’s basketball coach Edith Godleski from 1972-1976. During her four years at Indiana State, she was named the Most Valuable Player three times (1974, 1975, 1976), the honorary captain in 1976, and was the first women’s player at Indiana State to surpass 1,000 points in a career, finishing with 1,112 points (currently 16th in the record book).

She led the Sycamores to the IAIAW championship in 1976, a second place finish in the MAIAW tournament, and the first ever appearance by the Sycamores in the WNIT. Porter was also named the ISU Athlete of the Year in 1976, received the Walter E. Marks Award in 1976, and was named Outstanding Athlete in America in 1974.

Porter was not only a top basketball player, she was also a top field hockey player while at Indiana State. She was named the Field Hockey team’s MVP in 1975 and 1976, the top Offensive Player in 1976 and was named to the Midwest College South II team. ISU won the state championship in field hockey in 1975. She was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in April 2006 and then into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on Oct. 6, 2006.

Porter prepped at RHAM High School in Hebron, Conn. The team was 37-10 during her four years in which Trish started every game, averaging 22.1 points per game and scoring 1,041 points during her career.

Porter has been a Physical Education teacher the past 27 years and teaches PE at North Country Union High School in Newport, Vermont. She was named the Vermont High School Teacher of the Year (PE-2003-04) and Outstanding Vermont Teacher in 1992.

She is married to Vincent Buttice. Their oldest son graduated from Thomas College in Main while their younger son, Kyle, is a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University.
