The late Dr. John E. Miklozek was a contemporary of fellow Hall of Fame member Jim Carr and was a standout in several sports at Indiana State during the middle 1930's.
John was a star end in football and center on the basketball team. Both squads were coached by legendary ISU mentor Wally Marks and the teams were quite successful during that era. John earned three letters each in football and basketball and was Little All-American and Little All-State in both sports.
He also received three letters in track where he participated in the discus, shot-put, javelin, high jump and the mile relay team AND he was senior class president.
After graduation from Indiana State in 1936, John played professional basketball with the Kautsky's Pro Basketball team in Indianapolis with Johnny Wooden and also was an assistant football and basketball coach at ISU.
However, in 1937John quit professional basketball and entered Indiana University Medical School. After graduation in 1941, and a stay at the St. Louis University Hospital, where he started an internship and residency, he was inducted into the Army. John served both in Africa and in the Italian campaign and was highly decorated, including bronze and silver stars.
John returned to Terre Haute in 1946 and set up general practice. He was on the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital, now known as Regional. John married the former Ann Gannon in 1948. He was active in civic affairs in Terre Haute, helped many young students enter medical school, and participated in several Indiana State University alumni activities.
