Dr. Garrison came to Indiana State at a time when women’s athletics was changing with the establishment of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. Bowling was one of 13 sports offered by Indiana State for both men and women all with volunteer coaches with full teaching loads.

With Garrison as their coach, the ISU women’s bowling team won the national title in 1984 and was second in 1983. They also finished fourth in 1978 in the National Intercollegiate Bowling Championships. In the 11 years bowling existed at Indiana State, the team won eight sectional titles and one national title. The 1986-87 season was the last for the team and Dr. Garrison retired on May 7, 1988.
