Dr. Ferne E. Price received her degree in physical education from Indiana State University in 1948 and a master's degree in 1956. But before she came to Indiana State, Dr. Price was a member of an organization that included a very special group of athletes.

Price was a member of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball league (which was featured in the movie, "A League of Their Own"). She was a pitcher for the Milwaukee Chicks in 1944 and was later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1988 as a member of the league. Price was inducted into the National Girls and Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.

Price returned to ISU to coach the women's softball team from 1971 to 1974 and also coached women's swimming from 1975 to 1977.  Price Field in the ISU Eleanor St. John Softball Complex is named for Dr. Price in recognition for her leadership and service to Indiana State.
