Eleanor Forsythe St. John, while becoming one of the finest female athletes ever at Indiana State University, also was a great organizer of women's athletics at the school as well as in the state of Indiana.

A five-sport participant at ISU, Eleanor played volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and soccer. She graduated from the school in 1935.

After earning her Master's Degree from New York University in 1942, St. John came back to ISU that year and worked in the Physical Education Department. She eventually was named Chairperson of the Department of Physical Education for Women in 1960, and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1977.

Eleanor was the founder of IWISO, the state's forerunner of the Indiana AIAW organization. She instituted scholarships for female athletes at ISU and was truly the force behind the great success of the women's programs at Indiana State.
