Sarah Brumgart was a student-athlete at Indiana State and competed on the women’s gymnastics team from 1970 through 1972.
 
Brumgart was the 1971 National Champion on the balance beam as the Sycamores finished second in the nation at the NCAA Championships. She also won two Junior National titles in “artistic” gymnastics and toured the Mediterranean as a member of the USA Exhibition team.
 
She was a pioneer in rhythmic gymnastics and won four United States Individual Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 1973 and was a member of the first USA World Rhythmic Gymnastics team that competed in Holland in 1973.
 
Brumgart received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Illinois in 1974 where she began to develop her own structured-improvisational dance pedagogy. She started producing her work in 1977 and received six Choreographer Fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts. She performed throughout the United States on the National Performance Network and in Europe, and has been featured in numerous national publications including The New York Times, The Washington Pst, Dance Magazine, and Yoga Journal.
