Howard Sharpe or "Sharpie" as he is known to many throughout the state of Indiana, goes back to the late thirties and early forties at Indiana State University.  Sharpe was a three-year letterman in basketball from 1938 to 1940 for the Sycamores, playing for another 1998 inductee, Glenn Curtis.

Following his playing days, Sharpe moved into coaching where his records at Clinton Township High School, Honey Creek High School, Gerstmeyer High School, Terre Haute North High School and South Knox High School propelled him to the top of the all-time victory list for the state of Indiana with 755.

Sharpe is a former National Coach of the Year and considered by many to be a legend in Indiana athletics. Sharpe has been inducted in both the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame. Sharpe passed away in 2005.
