Coached by 1985 Indiana State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Roger Counsil, the Sycamores captured the first NCAA team title in school history at the meet held at the University of Arizona.

 ISU tied with Oklahoma for the championship.  Oklahoma held a four-point lead heading into the final day of competition and was ahead by nine tenths of a point going into the final round.

 ISU's Bruce Spikerman nailed a 9.475 on the vault to give ISU a share of the championship.
