Quintin Mikell played football at Indiana State from 1980-1984. When his collegiate playing career ended he ranked second all-time at Indiana State with 129 tackles in a season. He finished his career second all-time with 300 tackles, including 146 solos and 154 assists. He was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference in 1983.

Mikell posted 95 total tackles in 1982 and added 57 more in 1981. He shares the school record for most total tackles in a game as he posted 25 against Illinois State on October 1, 1983. In that same game he set the school record for most assisted tackles in a game with 21. He led the 1983 team with 129 tackles, including 54 solos and 75 assists.

His son with the same name, Quintin Mikell finished his career at Boise State with 401 total tackles and signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. The younger Mikell played in Super Bowl XXXIX with the Eagles. He played in the 2009 Pro Bowl and is currently the Director of Player Engagement for the Eagles. Quintin's younger son Devyn is a member of the Indiana State Track and Field Team.
