Delby Clare "Del" Humphrey attended Indiana State Teachers College where he played center on the football team three years without missing a game. He was a 1925 graduate of Garfield High School in Terre Haute.
 
In 1936 he went to work for McMillan Sports, Inc., was eventually promoted to vice-president and then president until he retired in 1968 to devote more time to his duties as president and owner of Schutt Manufacturing Company in Illinois.  The Schutt Co. is the manufacturer and originator of football faceguards used by many professional, college, and high school teams throughout the nation.
 
Mr. Humphrey has served as president of the Indiana State "I-Men" and Varsity Club organizations. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
 
Del still remains active in several athletic youth organizations in Terre Haute and the surrounding area. He lives in Terre Haute.
