Robert (Bobby) Poss was known as a gentle giant during his time at Indiana State from 1969-1973 as he made an impact on and off the field. Poss was named to the Associated Press All-America Second Team as an offensive lineman after his senior year in 1972. He was also an Honorable Mention All-American selection in 1971.

Poss was involved in a variety of activities on campus while at school and earned the McMillan award in 1972 and 1973, which was given to the ISU athlete who best displays leadership, scholarship, athletics and general contributions to the community. He was also recognized by SPORT magazine as the College Athlete of the Month in November of 1972 citing not only his football prowess but also his dedication to underprivileged children in Terre Haute.
 
Since graduating from Indiana State, Poss has become a very successful football coach having won five high school state championships in North Carolina and having been named the North Carolina Coach of the Year three times. He recently accepted the head coaching position at Brevard College in North Carolina, where he will start the NCAA Division II football program in 2006.
