Benita Edds is a 1981 graduate of Indiana State University, where she was a three-time member of the All-Midwest Archery team.

She represented the United States in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. She was also selected twice as an All-America collegiate Team Member, as well as a two-time alternate to the U. S. World Teams in 1981 and 1983.
 
She set national intercollegiate records at the 25 meters FITA II round with 283 out of a possible 300 and on the 25 meters double FITA II round she had 545 out of a possible 600 points. Benita was the 1984 National Women's Indoor champion, setting records for the highest overall total of 1,285 (No. United States woman had ever shot in the 1300's at the time).

She was ISU's Most Improved Player in 1980 and the team Most Valuable Player the following year. Benita was a three-time member of the United States Sports Festivals.
