Sycamore Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball announced its schedule for the 2023 season on Saturday, a 56-game slate which includes 14 home games at Price Field.

"We cannot wait to hit the field this spring and look forward to a fun season. Our pre-conference schedule will be a good test for us that will help us be prepared for MVC action. We always want to be challenged with our non-conference games so we are ready to compete at a high-level during conference play. Opening day can't get here soon enough!" head coach Mike Perniciaro said.

Perniciaro and his squad will open up their spring February 10-12 in Charleston, South Carolina at the Charleston Invitational where the Sycamores will play James Madison, Chattanooga and the host College of Charleston.

The following weekend, ISU will head to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Chattanooga Challenge February 17-19 where the Trees will face Western Illinois, Marshall, Maine and the host Mocs.

From February 24-26, the Sycamores will play at the Easton Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where ISU will take on Southeastern Louisiana, Kennesaw State in addition to the host Crimson Tide.

A week later from March 3-5, Indiana State will be in Richmond, Kentucky for the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky. The Sycamores will play Dayton, Ohio and the host EKU.

To wrap up the pre-conference tournament slate, the Sycamores will head to Memphis, Tennessee for the University of Memphis Tournament where they will face Pittsburgh, North Alabama and the host Tigers.

ISU will have road non-conference midweek games at IUPUI (March 14), Purdue (March 21), Illinois (March 29), and Butler (April 19).

The Missouri Valley Conference slate will have a different look to it this season on multiple fronts. As all 12 MVC institutions sponsor softball, teams will only play nine of a possible 11 opponents in conference play. Eight three-game weekend series will now be spread over three days Friday-Sunday, while a ninth series will be played over three separate days in midweek action.

"The Valley will be wide open and we are excited about the addition of three new schools in Belmont, Murray State and UIC which will only make our league stronger," said Perniciaro.

The Sycamores will begin Missouri Valley Conference play on March 17 with the Sycamores home opener as they'll play host to one of three new MVC members in UIC at Price Field.

Other home series at Price Field include matchups with Northern Iowa (April 7-9), Murray State (April 21-23) and Missouri State (April 28-30). Road MVC series include trips to Drake (March 24-26), Southern Illinois (March 31- April 2), Belmont (April 14-16) and Valpo (May 5-7). Indiana State's three-game series with Evansville consists of a pair of home games on April 4 and April 11 with a trip down to Evansville on April 25.

The MVC Tournament will be hosted by Southern Illinois at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois from May 10-13 with the tournament champion earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
