TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana State returns to Price Field on Tuesday with momentum and confidence after a resilient weekend that featured back-to-back walk-off wins and an 11-inning shutout to close the Drake series. The Sycamores continue trending upward in the circle, on defense, and in late-game execution as they prepare to host one of the Missouri Valley Conference's top teams, the Belmont Bruins.
The Sycamores' weekend showcased their toughness in tight games. On Saturday, Indiana State walked off Drake behind a seventh-inning RBI from Morgan Goodrich. Less than 24 hours later, ISU delivered its most dramatic finish of the season, an 11-inning, 1–0 victory sealed by Madison Poulson's walk-off single. Senior Megan Asher was exceptional, throwing all 11 shutout innings while allowing just four hits. Indiana State's offense continued to create pressure with key swings from Poulson, Goodrich, Bella Pusateri, and Peyton Simmons, and the defense played clean, composed softball throughout the series.
Belmont enters Tuesday's matchup with one of the strongest resumes in the MVC. The Bruins are 34–11 overall and 20–5 in conference play, backed by a schedule that includes wins over Missouri State, Central Michigan, Southern Indiana, UIC, Evansville, Bradley, Southern Illinois, and Drake. Belmont has also earned notable victories over Georgia and Mississippi State, demonstrating the ability to compete at a high level.
The Bruins have been consistent across all environments, posting a 16–3 home record, 13–5 road record, and 5–3 neutral-site mark, while maintaining a .756 winning percentage. Their lineup and pitching staff have helped them climb into the national mid-major rankings, and they enter the week having won multiple MVC series, including sweeps of Valparaiso and Drake.
For Indiana State, Tuesday presents an opportunity to build on its recent surge. The Sycamores have allowed two runs or fewer in four of their last five games, continue to produce timelyextra-base hits, and have shown steady defensive improvement. With confidence high and momentum building, ISU looks to carry its strong weekend performance into another key Valley matchup.
First pitch for Tuesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Price Field.
