TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball head coach Windy Thees announced the addition of Lauren Gambone to the Sycamore staff on Tuesday, August 18.
Gambone came in as an assistant coach following a four-year stint at Bradley University (2022-26) where she served as an assistant coach and the interim head coach. Her primary duties involved working with the hitters, catchers, and defense, while leading the recruiting aspects for the Braves' program.
Over her time with the Braves, she helped transform offensive production as Bradley saw marked improvement in batting average, slugging percentage, and power output. She was also influential in the development of multiple All-Conference performers including 2024 NFCA All-Region selection Sydney Kennedy (P/Util), as well as Grace French, Ashley Breeding, Kierston McCoy, and Austin Comstock.
This past season, the Braves finished fourth in the Valley in hits, third in RBIs, fifth in doubles, second in triples, and third overall in home runs. The Bradley offense was paced by Kierston McCoy's performance at the plate as she led the Valley and finished sixth in the NCAA in doubles.
Prior to her time at Bradley, Gambone spent three years as a private instructor at D-BAT North Canton in North Canton, Ohio, from 2020-22, where she focused on individual and group training.
Gambone was an assistant coach at Bowling Green from 2017-19. While at Bowling Green, Gambone helped the Falcons to their first .500 or better overall record in five years with the 2018 campaign including the team's second-best batting average in program history. In addition, Bowling Green posted its best league finish since 2012 in that same 2018 season.
Gambone has also had two stints as an assistant coach with the Ohio Lasers travel team from 2013-15, along with from 2019 through 2022.
Lauren graduated in May 2016 from Buffalo with a degree in sociology and was a two-year letterwinner for the Bulls after transferring for her junior season from Lamar. She earned MAC All-Academic honors both seasons at Buffalo, in addition to landing on the Southland Conference Honor Roll both of her seasons at Lamar.
