BURLINGTON, Iowa – Indiana State freshman
Lauren Green recorded a career-best finish and the Sycamores tied for eighth place in the 15 team field at the MVC Fall Preview. The 54-hole tournament was held at Spirit Hollow Golf Course which is a par-72, 6,246-yard layout. The MVC Championship will be held at the same course in April of 2020.
The Sycamores finished in a tie for eighth place with score of 323 and 321 on Monday which was followed by a round of 323 on Tuesday. Their team score of 967 matched that of former MVC member Creighton for eighth place. Indiana State edged out Green by a stroke with a score of 968 while Western Illinois was 11
th at 975. Omaha finished in 12
th place with score of 962, Evansville was 13
th at 990, Valparaiso finished 14
th with a score of 997 and Loyola rounded out the field with a score of 1,023.
Northern Iowa fired off rounds of 308, 313 and 321 to win the event with a final tally of 942. The Sycamores and Bluejays were edged by Butler who finished with a score of 963 while Illinois State was fifth at 960.
Freshman
Lauren Green posted rounds of 77 and 81 on Monday and followed that with a team-best 75 on Tuesday for a total of 233 – her career-best for 54 holes – and her best-ever finish in a collegiate tournament as she tied for fifth place.
Sierra Hargens posted rounds of 83 and 78 on the opening day and came back with an 82 for a total of 243 which tied for 33
rd.
Kayla Ryan carded Monday rounds of 80 and 81 and followed that with a score of 85 for a total of 246 which tied for 42
nd place.
Alex Jennings posted rounds of 90, 81 and 81 for a total of 252 and a tie for 61
st place.
Kristen Hobbs carded marks of 83 and 84 on Monday and followed that with an 89 in the third round for a total of 256 which tied for 74
th place.
ISU also took a pair of players who competed as individuals.
Madison Branum tallied rounds of 90 and 88 on Monday and came back with a round of 83 on Tuesday for a total of 261 which tied for 80
th place. Freshman
Chelsea Morrow tied for 89
th place in her Sycamore debut with rounds of 91, 94 and 91 for a total of 276.
UNI's Hannah Bermel and Emily Snelling tied for the individual championship with a final score of 229 which was just four shots ahead of Green.
Indiana State will travel to the Butler Fall Invitational on October 7-8 at the Highland Golf Club in Indianapolis.
