TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State plays host its annual tournament when they conduct the ISU Spring Invitational on Sunday and Monday, April 7-8 at The Country Club of Terre Haute. The course will be set up over a par-72, 6,004-yard layout. This year's event is free and open to the public.
A highly competitive field joins the Sycamores for the two-day, 36-hole event which begins with a shotgun start at 10 am (ET) on Sunday. In addition to ISU, teams participating include Loyola, Northern Iowa, Dayton, Purdue Fort Wayne, Valparaiso, California Baptist, Butler, Evansville, Youngstown State, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Green Bay. California Baptist is one of the top teams in the Western Athletic Conference while Youngstown State is predicted to win the Horizon League. With the Missouri Valley Conference Championship just one week away, five teams from the league will compete in one final tuneup before all 10 league members convene in Chesterton, Ind., from April 14-16.
"We have the most outstanding field in the history of our event," head coach
Greg Towne said, "If the five league teams weren't enough of a challenge there are two others who are predicted to win their leagues and will be NCAA Regional qualifiers. Our players and especially our seniors have been really focused this week at practice. I am sure they would love to go out on a high note and win their home event. The weather is predicted to play a factor which will only help in our preparation for the MVC Championship next week."
ISU is coming off a stellar showing at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., which saw the Sycamores finish second while senior
Thilda Staubo dominated the field and picked up an eight-shot victory. Staubo's 70 in the opening round of the event tied a career-best. Also in the lineup will be
Sophie Benetti and
Sierra Hargens who recorded Top 20 finishes as well as well
Kayla Ryan who's mark of 163 tied for 26th place.
Abigail Irwin has earned the fifth spot in the starting lineup.
The Country Club of Terre Haute is located on the south side of Terre Haute in the Allendale area. Results will be posted on GoSycamores.com following each day of the event.
