TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State men's basketball head coach
Matthew Graves announced the signing of Joah Chappelle.
Chappelle, a 6-8 sophomore forward from Atlanta, Ga., began his career playing for head coach Chris Oney at Pearl River Community College before transferring to Georgia State last season. He played in 28 games, starting 19, averaging 7.3 points per game on 43.6% shooting from the field.
"Joah brings so much versatility to our team," said head coach
Matthew Graves. "He has the ability to play multiple positions on both ends of the floor. With where he is at this point in his career it reminds me a lot of where Jayson Kent was at the same time. He has high character and will add a dynamic member to our team."
At GSU in one season, he was fourth on the team in scoring at 7.3 points per game but led the team in rebounding at 5.3 per game and blocks with 1.0 per game. His 43.6% shooting from the field includes his 37.8% three-point mark (17-for-45), and he adds a 70.6% mark from the free throw line.
Chappelle says he is an energetic player that loves getting the crowd involved, and that he's a leader from his past experiences. He chose Indiana State because of the staff, beautiful campus, and family atmosphere.
At PRCC, he earned the league's Freshman of the Year honor after averaging 16.3 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game 1.4 steals per game, and 1.2 blocks per game.
In his two seasons of college basketball, he has totaled 691 points, 368 rebounds, 107 assists, and 59 blocks shooting 50.1% from the field (274-547).
