TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Softball will travel to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend to compete in the Blues City Classic, where play begins on Friday, February 23.
The Sycamores will play five games throughout the weekend, beginning with a matchup at 1:30 p.m. ET against SIUE and to wrap up Friday's play the Sycamores will take on Tennessee Tech at 6:30 p.m. ET. On Saturday, ISU will play twice again, first taking on Memphis at 5:30 p.m. ET and then turning around to play Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m. ET. ISU will wrap up their weekend Sunday afternoon with another matchup against SIUE at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Last Time Out
The Sycamores went 3-1 in the Roar City Invitational last weekend in Nashville, defeating Western Michigan, Tennessee State, UT Martin, and falling to SLU in their final game. Indiana State recorded their second five inning run-rule win this season over UT Martin on Sunday where they connected on 11 hits and drove in 10 runs in the victory. Isabella Henning had a big weekend in Nashville, where she led the Sycamores to victory with a pair of home runs in wins over Western Michigan and Tennessee State on Friday morning with matching scores of 2-0. Henning finished her weekend with 6 hits, 4 runs scored, and 4 RBIs. Kennedy Shade recorded her second 2-RBI double of the day in the victory over UT Martin. Kenzie Cornwell connected on two hits and scored the Sycamores one solo run in the loss against the Billikens. Annie Waggoner recorded her first at bat for Indiana State where she got her first collegiate hit, RBI, and stolen base. Lauren Sackett went 2-0 in the circle last weekend where she allowed seven hits and one run scored in 8.0 innings of work.

- Coached by Danielle Penner who is entering her second season as head coach for Tennessee Tech.

- Returning for the Golden Eagles is junior Abby Shoulders who was second on the roster in batting average with a .276 clip, while collecting 40 hits and 13 RBI in her 2023 season. Shoulders led the team in runs scored with 25 and had the most stolen bases as she went 9-for-13.

- Coached by Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro who is entering her third season as head coach for the Tigers.
- First ever matchup between Indiana State and Memphis.

- Junior McKaylee Polk, a NFCA/NJCAA Division II All-American, notched a .434 career batting average with 86 hits, 80 RBI, 23 home runs and a .924 slugging percentage in her 2023 season.
The Opponents- SIUE
- Coached by Ben Sorden who is entering his third season as head coach for SIUE.
- Indiana State leads the all-time series record 4-3 against SIUE.
- 4-4 record this season.
- Junior Paige Rocha led the Cougars in 2023 with a .416 batting average and scored a team-leading 47 runs. Rocha recorded 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs and tied for the team lead in RBIs with 30.
