SOUTH BEND, Ind. –
Erin Cummins set a new Indiana State record in the 200-yard Freestyle and the Sycamores shattered the mark in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay to highlight ISU's efforts at the first day of the Tim Welsh Classic held at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
Cummins' highlighted the evening events with ISU's fifth new individual record of the 2023-24 season (fourth by a freshman), while the relay team of
Chloe Farro,
Kaleigh Kelley,
Kaimi Matsumoto, and Alexa Szadorksi surpassed the 200 Free relay mark set at last year's MVC Championships to highlight the first day of the two-day event.
"I'm very proud of how we showed up today against some strong competition," head coach
Josh Christensen said. "The two school records were obvious highlights, but there were close to 30 season or lifetime best performances and many other swims right on top of season bests. We're looking forward to closing gout the session with another strong day tomorrow."
The Sycamores posted 17 top-10 finishes overall on the day in a competitive field featuring host Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Akron. Ohio State (813 points) currently leads the team standings with Akron (548), Notre Dame (516), and ISU (440) rounding out the group.
