Sycamores eighth, LeMaire tied for 12th through first day at Butler Fall Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State sits eighth overall in the team standings, while Briana LeMaire is tied for 12th in the field as the Sycamores closed out the first 36 holes of the 2023 Butler Fall Invitational at the Highlands Country Club.
 
LeMaire (+6) sits in a four-way tie for 12th in the field and four strokes back from the top five in her third tournament of the season. Kristen Hobbs (+9) is also in the top-25 in the field overall as the Sycamores took on the 16-team field.
 
Indiana State (+37) turned in scores of 298-299 to sit with a two-round score of 597 in the field. The two-round total is a season-best for the Sycamores as ISU sits one stroke back of Belmont (+36) and Dayton (+36) and six strokes behind Loyola (+31) in the battle for a top-five position in the team standings.
 
LeMaire opened the day with birdies on the third, 14th, and 16th holes in the opening round to sit with a 72 (+2). The sophomore added a trio of birdies in the fifth, 12th, and 13th on her way to a second-round 74 (+4) to sit among the tournament leaders.
 
Hobbs birdied the par-3 11th hole to highlight her first-round 74 as the senior kept the field within striking distance over the opening round. She followed up with a second-round 75 to sit tied for 24th overall in the field following her two-round 149.
 
Iyoun Chew (+11) posted a first-round 76 and followed up by cutting one stroke off her total with a second-round 75 to sit tied for 37th overall in the field. The senior made her 2023 debut on the course to sit tied with teammate Chelsea Morrow.
 
Morrow (+11) scored in both rounds for the Sycamores with a 76-75 over the first day to finish with a two-round score 151. The senior birdied the seventh and the 14th holes in the second round to highlight her day to sit tied for 37th.
 
Sophia Florek (+20) posted a first-round 83, before bouncing back in the second round to finish with a 77 (+5) over the final 18 holes. The freshman highlighted her day with a birdie on the fourth hole to post a two-round score 160.
 
Yang Tai (+20) is taking on the field as an individual sitting tied for 77th overall through the first two rounds. The sophomore posted an 85 including a birdie on the fourth hole in her opening round. She added birdies on the second and 18th holes over the second round in cutting her score by 10 strokes to finish with a second-round 75.
 
UIC (+12) leads the team standings through the first day, while Morehead State (+15) and Butler (+19) are both in the top three. UIC's Dasa Urbankova (-3) is the individual leader by two strokes heading into the final round.
 
The final 18 holes on Tuesday morning are set to start at 9 a.m. at the Highlands Country Club.
