Terre Haute, Ind. – The Indiana State swimming and diving team will open the 2021-22 season with an Intrasquad meet held at the Vigo County Aquatic Center at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 1.
The meet will be scored and formatted like a regular dual meet. The Sycamores will be split into two different teams as the Trees face off against each other in different events in a collegiate meet format. The Intrasquad will be a great setting for the Sycamores to prepare for the upcoming season.
"We did something a little different this year heading into the season by breaking the team into Blue and White teams," Christensen said. "We compete inside the pool, out of the pool, and we'll keep it going heading into the meet on Friday. It will also give our freshmen and newcomers a feel for an actual competition day and see some actual races in a meet format, while giving some good preparation for the start of the season."
ORDER OF EVENTS FOR INTRASQUAD MEET
The meet will open with the 1000 Free. Following that, there will be the 200 Free, followed by the 100 Back,100 Breast, 200 Fly, and 50 Free.
After a 15 minute break they will start back up with the 100 Free followed by the 200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, and 100 Fly.
After another break the Sycamores will finish the meet with a 200 IM and a 400 Free Relay. The divers will also have a 3M diving and 1M diving during the meet.
CONTINUING TO EXCEL
Marni Gray enters the 2021-22 season as an exciting swimmer to watch for the Sycamores. Gray is coming off a season where she was the conference champion in the 200 fly and runner-up in the 100 fly. Gray is only the second conference champion in program history at Indiana State joining ISU alumni Bianca Saez-Illobre. Bianca became the first conference champion for the Sycamores in the 2017-18 season in the breaststroke category.
The junior class will look to make big strides this year for the Sycamores.
"The entire junior class is big for us, "Christensen commented. "We had a tough year with COVID last year, but a lot of people inside that class can really make an impact for us this year."
Another exciting name to watch this season is diver
Keara Shelton. Shelton is going into the 2021-22 season as a senior and will look to be the leader for the Sycamore diving team.
Bailey Betzer is also another diver to keep an eye on this season. Bailey will look to build off a great freshman year and will look to take another step in her second year with ISU.
LOOKNG AHEAD
After this Intrasqaud meet, the Sycamores will travel to Bloomington, Ind. on Wednesday, October 6 to face off against the Indiana Hoosiers and the Kentucky Wildcats at the Indiana Tri-Meet. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. that afternoon at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
