KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Indiana State posted their best team score during the third and final round of the 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Tuesday on the coast of South Carolina. The event was a three-day, three-round event held at both the Osprey Point (Par 72 – 5,984 yards) and Oak Point (Par 72 – 5,977 yards) Golf Resorts.
Four of the five golfers posted their best round of the week in posting an impressive score of 299 on the final day of the event. The score of 299 was tied for the fourth-lowest team score of the day among the 49-team field. ISU finished with a three-round score of 920 which tied them for 27th place with UNC-Asheville and well as Presbyterian College. That team tally of 920 is the seventh-best tournament score in the history of the program.
Thilda Staubo fired a final round of even-par 72 to record rounds of 74, 76 and 72 for a total of 222 which tied for 38th place in the event. Staubo's tournament score of 222 is tied for the sixth-best individual performance in program history.
Sierra Hargens followed up rounds of 81 and 72 with a final round score of 74 to give her a total of 227 and tied her for 96th place.
Sophie Benetti was the picture of consistency throughout the week as she fired off three consecutive rounds of 78 to finish with a total of 234 which was tied for 142nd.
Kayla Ryan battled through injury the entire week and improved each days as she had rounds of 82 and 80 on Sunday and Monday and fired off an impressive 75 on Tuesday. Her final tally of 237 tied her for 166th place.
Abigail Irwin rounded out the lineup with rounds of 94 and 88 and posted a found round of 81 for a total of 263 which finished in 242nd place.
Coastal Carolina and North Florida tied for tournament championship honors with a total of 865 for the three rounds.
The Sycamores will be back on the East Coast from March 18-19 when they take part in the William & Mary Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
