BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Indiana State showed a ton of improvement on the second day of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, including
Sierra Hargens who shaved two strokes off her score en route to a second place individual finish. The tournament was held at the Mill Creek Park Golf Club, a par-72, 5,957 yard layout.
Hargens fired a second round score of 71 to follow up her opening round of 73 for a total of 144 which put her in second place in the individual standings. Katlyn Shutt of Youngstown State fired rounds of 68 and 64 for a total of 132 to win the event. Hargens owned a two stroke cushion over Cleveland State's Madison Butler and YSU's Victoria Grans who tied for third with scores of 146.
Thilda Staubo improved from an opening round of 80 to shoot a 77 on Tuesday for a tournament score of 157 and a tie for 22nd place.
Lauren Green, a native of England, made her collegiate debut this week and trimmed five strokes off her Monday score of 83 with a second round of 78. Her total of 161 put her in a tie for 30th place.
Sophie Benetti shot an 83 one day after carding an 87 for a total of 170 which put her in a tie for 45th place.
Abigail Irwin followed her career-best tying round of 79 on Monday with a score of 85 on Tuesday for a total of 164. She finished in a tie for 38th place.
Kayla Ryan continued her strong play as she took an opening round of 80 and improved it to a 76 on Tuesday for a total of 156 and a tie for 19th place.
Madison Branum who shot 76 on Monday came in with a second round score of 84 for a total of 160 which was still good enough tie for 24th place.
The Sycamores finished fourth as a team as they trimmed six shots off their score on Tuesday carding a round of 309 which bettered the opening round showing of 315. The two day total of 624 put the Sycamores in fourth. Host Youngstown State won the event with rounds of 286 and 291 for a total of 577. Marshall was second with scores of 294 and 298 for a total of 592. Cleveland State finished third with rounds of 301 and 299 for a total of 600. ISU finished ahead of St. Francis (Pa.) who posted scores of 321 and 311 for a total of 632 while Purdue Fort Wayne's rounds of 320 and 314 placed them in sixth with a total of 634. Niagara finished seventh with rounds of 320 and 321 for a total of 641.
Indiana State returns to action on September 17 and 18 at the Ball State Cardinal Classic.
