EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Indiana State stands in fourth place among the 13-team field after the first of two rounds of play in the 2018 Charles Braun Intercollegiate. The event is being held at the par-72, 6,032-yard layout of the Oak Meadow Country Club.
Thilda Staubo fired an opening round of 77 which puts her in a tie for second place in the individual race. IUPUI's Marion DeBove leads the way after recording a two-under-par round of 70.
The Sycamores team score of 322 was good enough for fourth place just three shots behind IUPUI who returned to the clubhouse with a round of 319. It is tight at the top as Northern Kentucky posted a round of 318 in second place while Southern Illinois leads the field with a 317. Indiana State is just five shots off the pace entering Tuesday's second and final round but they also have a narrow advantage over Central Michigan (323) for fifth place, Butler (324) in sixth and Illinois State (326) in seventh.
A total of 20 shots separates the field from first place through Eastern Illinois's round of 337 which is 12th.
Sophie Benetti's return to the lineup proved fruitful as she posted a round of 79 which is tied for 12th.
Sierra Hargens round of 83 is tied for 33rd place.
Kayla Ryan checked in with the same exact score of 83 and is also tied for 33rd.
Abigail Irwin rounded out the starters with a total of 86 and is in 54th place.
Freshman
Lauren Green played well as she posted the best round of the day for those competing as individuals with a score of 78 which is tied for eighth place.
Madison Branum's tally of 83 was tied for 38th place while
Robyn Blanchard posted a tally of 87 and is tied for 55th place.
Sydney Parrish posted a round of 92 in her Sycamore debut which is 71st.
The second and final round is set for Tuesday, October 23. A shotgun start begins the day at 11 am (ET).
