CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Indiana State Sycamores picked up 10 event wins at the Eastern Illinois University Tuesday Tweener, a meet which featured a limited schedule but some good competition between the two rivals.
Leo Cordova was one of seven Sycamore men who won events on the day as he claimed the 200 meters in 22.46. Cordova also ran to a third place finish in the 100 meters in 11:01 to lead ISU in that event which was won by Sean Smith, who was competing unattached, in 10.77. Ryan Henrickson was third in the 200 meters for ISU (22.99) while Ray Humphrey was fourth in the 100 meters (11.02).
Remy Lewis picked up a victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.25 while Andrew Sullivan ran to a third place finish in the 1500 meters in 4:05.05.
Most of the Sycamore men's victories came in the field events as Robert Webb won the high jump by clearing 6-feet-6 ¾-inches (2.00 meters), Tucker Field cleared a personal best height of 16-feet-0 ¾-inches (4.90 meters) to win the pole vault, Chris Fields had a personal best toss of 53-feet-0 ¼-inches (16.16 meters) to take the shot put, Justin Applegate had a personal best throw of 177-feet-3-inches (54.02 meters) to claim the hammer throw, and Jordan Colanese went 171-feet-7-inches (52.31 meters) to win the javelin.
Fields was second in the discus (157-feet-8-inches) and second in the hammer throw (175-feet-3-inches) with Applegate third (153-feet-0-inches) in the discus. Kevin Selby had a personal best distance of 159-feet-4-inches to finish fourth in the javelin, Jamal Hampton cleared 6-feet-6 ¾-inches for second in the high jump, and Wes Schenck cleared 14-feet-7 ¼-inches for third in the pole vault.
All three of the Sycamore women victories came in the field events as Nikki Snearley cleared 5-feet-3 ¼-inches (1.61 meters) to win the high jump, Shalesa Smith going 38-feet-6 ¾-inches (11.75 meters) to win the triple jump, and Kasey Kahle went 152-feet-11-inches (46.61 meters) to win the hammer throw.
Richelle Kimble led three Sycamores to personal bests in the pole vault as she cleared 13-feet-1 ½-inches (4.00 meters) to finish second. Hannah McKnight was fourth and Lauren Rice fifth as each cleared 11-feet-5 ¾-inches (3.50 meters).
Rachael Johnson finished second in the high jump (5-feet-3 ¼-inches), Patricia Merrion third (17-feet-4 ¼-inches) and India Williams fourth (16-feet-6 ½-inches) in the long jump, Toni Tillett third (31-feet-9 ¼-inches) in the shot put, Kahle third in the discus (137-feet-4-inches), and Johnson second in the javelin (101-feet-0-inches).
On the track, Ja'liza Prophet was third in the 100 meters (12.56) and third in the 200 meters (26.96) with Tillett fourth in the 200 meters (27.46). Alexa McFadden placed second (5:05.56) and Emily Mercer third (5:25.63) in the 1500 meters. India Williams ran to a sixth place finish in the 100 hurdles (16.42) while Amy Fanella was fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.45).
Next up for the Sycamores is the annual Drake Relays which begin Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
