Sycamore jumper Aaron Massiah shines for Barbados at CARIFTA Games

ST. GEORGE'S, Guyana –Indiana State freshman jumper Aaron Massiah took his talents to the international stage Sunday and Monday, recording a pair of top-five finishes for his native Barbados in the CARIFTA Games.

Massiah, who joined the Sycamores prior to the start of the 2025-26 track and field season, claimed bronze in the U20 triple jump and also finished fourth in the U20 long jump. His performance in the triple jump was one to remember, soaring to a career-best mark of 15.26m (50-0.75) to earn his third career CARIFTA medal and first at the U20 level.

The Sycamore freshman also recorded marks of 15.03m (49-3.75) and 14.99m (49-2.25), all above his previous best of 14.83m (48-8) which was set at the Crossroads of America Invitational during the recent indoor season. Massiah's top mark of 15.26m would rank among the top 10 in program history had it come in a collegiate meet.

Massiah recorded a pair of long jump marks of 7.12m (23-4.25) Sunday morning to place fourth in the event. His field series also featured marks of 6.93m (22-8.76) and 6.82m (22-4.5), with his top attempt of 7.12m being his best in an international competition in his career.

Massiah is coming off an indoor season in which he recorded top-five finishes in both the long jump and triple jump at the MVC Indoor Championships, delivering marks of 7.17m (23-6.25) in the long jump and 14.78m (48-6) in the triple jump. He opened his 2026 outdoor season with a mark of 7.19m (23-7.25) at Eastern Illinois, his best long jump mark in his career.

The CARIFTA Games is an annual track and field competition founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association, featuring competition at the under-17 and under-20 levels. Barbados, who Massiah competes for, has been one of the most successful nations in the history of the event, ranking in the top five in total medals.
