NEW YORK – Three Indiana State track and field alumni carded top-five finishes in events at the USATF Outdoor and Para National Championships, including a pair of podium finishes at Icahn Stadium.
 
Six-time Paralympic medalist Noah Malone earned the gold medal in the para 100m, finishing as the top athlete in both prelims and finals. Malone carded times of 10.55 in prelims and 10.61 in finals, finishing with the top time in the field by more than two-tenths of a second in both prelims and finals.
 
Malone's gold medal at the USATF Para National Championships comes on the heels of a first-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic, where he clocked a time of 10.54 to win by over one-tenth of a second. In addition, Malone also claimed gold in the Para 100m at the LA Grand Prix in June. He was a six-time All-MVC honoree at Indiana State from 2020-23, making three NCAA East First Round appearances in that span. Malone still holds program top-10 marks in the indoor 60m (6.75) and 200m (21.60), along with the outdoor 100m (10.34) and ran the anchor leg on five of Indiana State's top 10 4x100m relay teams in program history. He has six Paralympic medals to his name between Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and is a three-time Para World Championships medalist.
 
Three-time All-American Erin Reese claimed bronze in the hammer throw for the second time in the last three seasons, with her best mark of the competition measuring in at 72.94m (239-4). Reese had three of her six throws sail past the 71-meter mark, while remaining in the top three after all six rounds. Her third-place finish came just weeks after she made her Prefontaine Classic, placing eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 71.65m (235-1). She also tallied three appearances at USATF events during the summer, where she placed eighth in the hammer at the LA Grand Prix (73.29m/240-5) and Lone Star Grad Prix (72.58m/238-1) while finishing sixth at the USATF Throws Festival (74.18m/243-4).
 
Reese was a three-time All-American and five-time MVC Champion at Indiana State from 2017-19, finishing as the national runner-up in the hammer throw in 2019 and fourth in the nation in the weight throw that same season.  She owns Indiana State's facility record in both the weight throw (25.26m/82-10.5) and hammer throw (76.76m/251-10), with her hammer throw mark coming this season. Reese remains Indiana State's school record holder in the hammer throw at 71.06m (233-2), and has performed well this outdoor season by clearing the 74-meter mark at three different meets, including a pair of throws over the 75-meter mark at the Sycamore Open (76.76m/251-10, 75.09m/246-4). Reese qualified for the US Olympic Team for the first time in her career in 2024, where she finished 14th in the hammer throw in Paris.
 
Ryann Porter, a six-time MVC Champion, claimed a top-five finish in the triple jump in her first post-collegiate outdoor championship appearance, as she recorded a wind-legal mark of 13.36m (43-10). Porter's best mark of the weekend came on her final attempt, which vaulted the former Sycamore jumper into the top five in the field.
 
Porter, who competed for the Sycamores from 2020-23, is no stranger to international competition after finishing 16th in the triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March, with her top mark at the meet coming in at 13.01m (42-8.25) in her first international meet as a professional. She qualified for the world indoor championships by placing third in the triple jump at the USATF Indoor Championships in New York, with her top mark at that meet measuring 13.50m (44-3.5). Porter previously competed at the Olympic Trials, USATF Championships and USATF U20 Championships during her time at Indiana State. She won six MVC titles in individual events (five triple jump, one long jump) and reached the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in each of her three seasons with the Sycamores (2021, 2022, 2023).
 
Two-time All-American and MVC record holder Rachel Mehringer, the lone Sycamore on the active roster to compete during the weekend, made her USATF Outdoor Championships debut Saturday in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 13.90 to place 19th. Mehringer, who owns the MVC 60 hurdles and 100 hurdles records and is a five-time conference champion, recovered to finish strong after clipping a pair of early hurdles.
 
Mehringer, who wrapped up her 2026 season with Saturday's performance, returns for her senior season at Indiana State next year with plenty of motivation after earning First Team All-America honors in June. She completed an undefeated regular season in the hurdles, one of the most dominant campaigns the Missouri Valley Conference has ever seen in any single event, on her way to becoming the first Sycamore on the national podium since 2019. Mehringer was a six-time MVC Athlete of the Week selection during the outdoor season, bringing her career conference weekly award haul to 15. She broke a pair of facility records (Indiana State and Vanderbilt), shattered her own MVC and MVC Championships records (12.72 wind-legal, 12.64 wind-aided) and became the first athlete in conference history to break the 13-second mark in the 100m hurdles, something she accomplished nine times during the season. Mehringer owns 21 of the 23 fastest 100m hurdles times in MVC history, including each of the top five and nine of the top 10 times.
 
The strong performances for Indiana State's contingent in New York City accomplishments add to a decorated summer for former and current Sycamore athletes, as four Sycamore freshmen have competed in international competition over the course of the last three weeks. Aaron Massiah claimed a pair of medals in the triple jump (gold) and long jump (silver) at the Barbados National Championships, Kieran Barnewall claimed the Canada U20 title in the 110m hurdles to secure a spot at the World Athletics U20 Championships in August, and Theo Thurmond carded a top-10 finish in the discus at the USATF U20 Championships.
