INDIANAPOLIS, IND. ? Indiana State freshman Shayne Cureton and Jordan Colanese were the top finishers for the Indiana State Sycamores at the Stan Lyons Invitational Saturday in Indianapolis. Cureton took third place in the men's long jump while Colanese was third in the men's javelin.
Cureton posted the best distance on the team this season in the men's long jump and a personal best as he was marked at 23'-6.75” (7.18 meters). Colanese was just short of his personal best with a throw of 170'-2” (51.86 meter) in taking third in the men's javelin.
Junior Nikki Snearley and senior Chenelle Martin were the top finishers for the Sycamore women as each tied for fifth in the women's high jump by clearing 5'-3” (1.60 meters). The height was a personal best for Snearley.
Other top 10 finishes for the Sycamore men in the field events included: sophomore Jamal Hampton tied for ninth in the high jump by clearing 6'-2.75” (1.90 meters), junior Drew LaMaster cleared a season best 15'-11.75” (4.87 meters) to tie for fifth in the pole vault, sophomore Tucker Field cleared a personal best 15'-5.75” (4.72 meters) to place 10th in the pole vault, and freshman Chris Fields had a toss of 146'-5” (44.64 meters) to finish seventh in the discus.
Top 10 finishes for the Sycamore men in the track events included: freshman Leo Cordova ran 11.13 seconds to finish eighth in the 100 meters and was timed in a personal best 22.30 in placing ninth in the 200 meters, junior Andrew Lepkowski ran a season best 3:55.87 to finish ninth in the 1500 meters, and freshman Ray Skamay ran 53.70 to finish fourth in the 400 meter hurdles.
Other top 10 finishes for the Indiana State women in the field events included: senior Alicia Fritschi cleared a season best 12'-1.25” (3.69 meters) to tie for seventh in the pole vault, sophomore Shalesa Smith had a jump just short of her personal best as she went 38'-4.75” (11.70 meters) to place eighth in the triple jump, and junior Tara Perigo had a toss of 41'-7.75” (12.69 meters) to tie for seventh in the shot put.
Several other Sycamores established personal bests for the outdoor season including: freshman Jordan Lump (1:00.73 in the 400 meters), freshman Toni Tillett (1:03.99 in the 400 meters), freshman Ashley Name (2:26.55 in the 800 meters), sophomore Andrea Prusz (4:47.61 in the 1500 meters), sophomore Kylee Thacker (18:20.00 in the 5000 meters), freshman Valerie Burns (18:25.91 in the 5000 meters), junior Patricia Merrion (17.52 in the 100 hurdles and 16'-6” in the long jump), freshman Hanna Mercer (12:03.82 in the 3000 steeplechase), freshman Hannah McKnight (9'-11.75” in the pole vault), and sophomore Ethan Wilkinson (13'-7.25” in men's pole vault).
The Sycamores will compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University on Friday. This is the final outdoor meet of the season before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships which will be held May 13-15 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
