DES MOINES, IOWA ? Indiana State freshman Greggmar Swift advanced to the finals of the 110 meter hurdles after recording the eighth fastest time in the preliminaries with a personal best of 14.44 seconds during competition Friday at the 102nd Drake Relays. The finals will be run at 3:50 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
Swift was one of seven Indiana State athletes in individual competition today.
Senior Daryl Truitt ran 11.18 seconds in the 100 meter preliminaries to finish 28th overall. Freshman Nigel Jolly had a leap of 22'-8.5” (6.92 meters) to place 22nd in the men's long jump.
Sycamore junior Nicole Hope placed 11th in the women's pole vault after clearing 12'-7.5” (3.85 meters) while sophomore teammate Richelle Kimble was 18th after clearing 12'-1.5” (3.70 meters).
Sophomore Felisha Johnson had a toss of 46'-9” (14.25 meters) to place 17th in the women's shot put while senior Kelsey Hanley had a throw of 158'-10” (48.41 meters) in finishing 14th in the women's discus.
Eight Sycamore relays were also in competition Friday with the men's 1600 meter relay team of Jeremiah Vaughan, Dustin Betz, Michael Disher, and Drew Gambill finishing in seventh with a time of 16:59.38 which is the third best in school history.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Daryl Truitt, Kevin Piraino, Justin Baxtron, and Andrew Stull placed 14th with a time of 41.31 while the 4x800 meter team of Brad Adams, Konstantinos Tzirtziris, Corey Hahn, and Drew Gambill was 15th in 7:46.65. Max Tuttle, Jonathan Jackson, Keenan Johnson, and Brian Martin competed for ISU in the 4x400 meter relay and finished 16th overall with a time of 3:16.03.
The Sycamore 4x800 meter relay team of Kaci Smith, Kelsie Slater, Kristy Twitchell, and Kacie Klem had the best performance for the ISU women on the day with a 13th place finish in 9:14.67 which is the fifth best in school history. The distance medley relay team of Slater, Macey Black, Twitchell, and Allison Malone was 14th overall in 12:20.43.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Stacia Weatherford, Leeann Michl, Shelby Higginbottom, and Smith was 15th overall in 3:45.47 which is a season best for the team and the 12th best in school history.
The 102nd Drake Relays wrap up on Saturday with Indiana State competing in the men's and women's shuttle hurdle relay preliminaries, the men's and women's sprint medley relay, and the men's distance medley relay.
Several individuals will also be competing including Hanley and Johnson in the women's hammer throw, Major Clay in the men's high jump, Michael Disher in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, and Ernest Rollins in the men's triple jump.
Another group of Indiana State athletes will be competing in Indianapolis on Saturday at the Stan Lyons Invitational.
