Indiana State junior Major Clay wins third
straight high jump title of indoor season

MADISON, WIS. ? The Indiana State men's track and field team finished third in the Wisconsin Elite Invitational on Saturday while junior Major Clay won his third straight high jump title as the Sycamores completed a weekend series in Madison, Wis. The ISU women's team placed third in the Wisconsin Women's Invitational on Friday.
Host Wisconsin won the meet title with 171 points with Eastern Michigan holding off Indiana State to take second with 142 points. The Sycamores were third with 133 points while Wisconsin-Milwaukee was fourth with 90 points.
Indiana State junior Major Clay won his third straight high jump competition of the 2011 Indoor season by clearing 7'-1.25” (2.18 meters). Freshman Robert Webb was third at 6'-7.50” (2.02 meters) with freshman Shayne Cureton fifth at 6'-6” (1.98 meters), and sophomore Jamal Hampton seventh at 6'-2.75” (1.90 meters).
Cureton was also fifth in the long jump with a distance of 22'-3” *6.78) and freshman Nigel Jolly placed seventh at 20'-9.75” 6.34 meters). In the triple jump, junior Earnest Rollins was third with a distance of 45'-4.5” (13.83 meters) while Jolly was sixth at 42'-5.25” (12.93 meters).
Freshman Chris Fields placed third in the shot put with a personal best throw of 50'-2” (15.29 meters) and also had a personal best in the weight throw, finishing fifth at 52'-7.5” (16.04 meters). Sophomore Gregory McDaniel had a personal best 55'-2.25” (16.82 meters) to place third in the weight throw and also finished fifth in the shot put at 45'-5.75” (13.86 meters).
All four Sycamores competing in the 60 meters made the finals with senior Daryl Truitt finishing third (6.89), freshman Leo Cordova fifth (7.10), sophomore Justin Braxton sixth (7.11), and junior Shaun Smith seventh (7.15). Baxtron was also sixth in the 200 meters (22.44) with Cordova running a personal best 22.93 to finish ninth.
Freshman Keenan Johnson led the ISU effort in the 400 meters, finishing fifth with a time of 50.26. Freshman Max Tuttle ran his first collegiate 600 meter race and finished seventh in 1:22.05, just ahead of fellow freshman Ray Skamay who ran a personal best 1:25.07 and finished 12th. Freshman Brad Adams had a personal best 1:54.71 in finishing fifth in the 800 meters with sophomore Corey Hahn sixth in 1:54.95
Sophomore Dustin Betz ran the ninth fasted mile in school history and a personal best as he finished seventh in the event with a time of 4:11.08. In the 3,000 meters, junior Craig Padgett ran the sixth fastest and senior Michael Disher the eighth fastest in school history. Padgett finished third in a personal best 8:18.53 with Disher sixth in a personal best 8:22.56. Also running a personal best in the event was sophomore Albaro Escalera who was seventh in 8:27.50.
The Indiana State 4x400 meter relay team of Johnson, Adams, Tuttle, and Skamay finished fifth with a time of 3:21.84.
In an exhibition discus competition held on Friday, Fields placed seventh with a distance of 136'-11” (41.73 meters) while freshman Justin Applegate was eighth at 133'-9” (40.77 meters), and McDaniel was ninth at 132'-8” (40.45 meters).
The Sycamore will be in action on two fronts next weekend as part of the team competes at the Meyo Invitational on the campus of the University of Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday. Another portion of the team will compete at the Tiger Invitational on the campus of DePauw University on Saturday.
CORRECTION ? Wisconsin officials announced today that ties in three field events during the Wisconsin Women's Invitational were incorrectly broken. The errors did not change the team standings and there were only slight changes to the point totals.
However, in the women's pole vault, ISU sophomore Richelle Kimble, who was originally announced the winner after a four-way tie was broken, was dropped to second in the new results with junior Nichole Hope dropping from third to fourth. Senior Alicia Fritschi was also dropped from fifth to sixth.
In the high jump competition, freshman Rachael Johnson moved up from seventh to fourth while junior Nikki Snearley dropped from eighth to ninth. There was only one change for Indiana State in the pole vault as freshman Kelly Steffen was dropped from a tie for fifth into sixth.
The new point totals for the Invitational has Wisconsin winning with 190 points, Western Michigan second with 184.5, Indiana State third at 168, Wisconsin-Milwaukee fourth at 94.5, Winona State fifth with 88, and Northern Michigan sixth with 47.
