TERRE HAUTE, IN ? The Indiana State University athletic community, along with family, friends and fans, paused Monday night to honor the spring sports teams at the Terre Haute Savings Bank Spring Sports Banquet.
Most of the teams are still in competition with the Sycamore softball team playing in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Thursday, the women's tennis team competing in the NCAA Regionals on Friday, the baseball team has nine games remaining on their regular season schedule, and the track and field team will be at the MVC Outdoor Championships in Carbondale this weekend.
The ISU men's tennis and women's golf team are the only two whose seasons have ended at this time.
Lindsay Meggs, head coach of the ISU baseball team, presented four awards during the cermonies. Brady Shoemaker was named the team's Most Valuable Player while David Gurbach was named the team's Most Improved Player, Sean Osborne was received the Team Leadership award, and Pascual Del Real took home the Coach's Award. In addition, Ryan Strausborger received the Blackwell Award.
Mike Whitson, head coach of the ISU women's golf team, presented three awards during the evening festivities. Kayley Bondine was named the Most Valuable Player on the team this year with Diana Price the Most Improved Player, and Kelsea Ice received the Coach's Award.
Brenda Coldren, head coach of the Sycamore softball team, presented four awards. Meredith Simpson was named the Most Valuable Player on the team this year with Britaney Searing chosen as the Most Improved Player, Kelsey Anderson earned the Team Leadership Award, and Meagan McCurdy received the Coach's Award.
Jonas Piibor, head coach of the Indiana State men's tennis team, honored four players during the ceremony. Anton Tsymbalov was named the Most Valuable Player on the team while Joshua Smith was selected as the Most Improved Player, Rishi Behl was honored for Team Leadership, and Blake Douglas received the Coach's Award.
Malik Tabet, head coach of the Sycamore women's tennis team, handed out four awards during the night. Joanne Schickerling was named the Most Valuable Player on the team this year with Sarah Meghoufel selected as the Most Improved Player, Fadzai Masiyazi took home the Team Leadership award, and Jennifer Migan received the Coach's Award. In addition, Meghoufel received the Stadler Award.
John McNichols, head coach of the ISU men's track and field team, passed out four honors during the festivities. Sean Wright was named the Most Valuable Player on the team this year while Josh Williams received the Most Improved award, Logan Edwards the Team Leadership award, and Josh Lee received the Coach's Award. Sean Bowman received the Hillman Award this year.
John Gartland, head coach of the Sycamore women's track and field team, also presented four awards on the night. Erica Moore was named the Most Valuable on the team this season with Lauren Martin recognized as the Most Improved, Katie Weber was honored for Team Leadership, and Kylie Hutson took home the Coach's Award. Samantha McClendon received the Hillman Award this year.
