MARTIN, TN ? The ISU Sycamore softball team will bring a 2-3 record back from the UT-Martin Tournament after splitting their final two games today. The Sycamores defeated Dartmouth 3-1 in the first game of the day and then dropped their second game 1-0 to Big Ten Conference member Minnesota.
Against Dartmouth, junior Meredith Simpson hit her second homerun of the tournament in the second inning with a runner on first giving Indiana State a 2-0 lead. The Sycamores would tack on their third run in the fourth inning thanks to Simpson once again who singled through the right side with runners on first and second. The runner on second crossed home plate on the single and Dartmouth was only able to get one across the plate in the fifth. It wasn't enough as Sophomore Meagan McCurdy was credited with the win.
In their second game of day two and final of the tournament, the Sycamores faced the Golden Gophers of Minnesota (15-5). The only run of the game would come in the bottom of the first inning but it was enough for the Golden Gophers to take the 1-0 win as the Sycamores were unable to produce any runs. Each team committed one error and Indiana State had the edge on hits 5-4.
The Sycamores will travel to Kansas next weekend to participate in the Jayhawk Classic. They will play two games on Saturday and conclude with a single game on Sunday.
