TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's reign atop the Missouri Valley Conference will carry on, as the Sycamores won the MVC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships for a third straight year on Sunday.
The Sycamores scored a program record 183.5 points to claim the conference hardware on their home turf. Indiana State finished third on the men's side with 148.5 points, a significant increase from its pre-championship projection.
Indiana State athletes accounted for four individual titles on Championship Sunday, those coming from blistering performances in the hurdles from
Rachel Mehringer and
Collin Forrest, and strong performances from
Jahnel Bowman in the triple jump and
Aliseonna Garnett in the discus. Sycamore athletes also accounted for 21 all-conference performances and 10 program top-10 marks on the final day of the conference championships.
Sycamore athletes also racked up a plethora of specialty awards following their standout performances over the weekend. Mehringer was named MVC Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete, while
Emma Yoder was selected as the MVC Most Outstanding Women's Field Athlete.
Aaron Massiah was named the MVC Freshman of the Year, while
Olivia Marshall earned the MVC's Elite 18 Award, which goes to the medalist with the highest GPA.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State's sprinters and hurdlers put on a show during Championship Sunday, with six all-conditions program top-10 marks and a pair of hurdles titles on the final day of competition. The Sycamores swept the top four spots in the men's 110m hurdles, as
Collin Forrest (13.75) and
Kieran Barnewall (13.80) both went sub-14 seconds for a second straight day while
Parker Doyle (14.04) also picked up all-conference honors.
David Carnell (14.09) was fourth, while
Graham West (15.17) also scored in the event for the Sycamores. Doyle (54.07) and Carnell (55.29) pulled double-duty in the 400m hurdles with sixth and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
Rachel Mehringer capped a blistering conference campaign with the top all-conditions 100m hurdles time in the nation this season, running 12.64 for her third straight MVC title in the event. Mehringer's time ranked in the top five in the world for all-conditions times this season, in addition to being tied for the best in the NCAA.
Aubrey Runyon placed fifth with an all-conditions program top-10 time of 13.85, and also finished sixth in the 400m hurdles at 1:03.64.
Terrance O'Bannon made his mark in his final meet at the Gibson Track and Field Complex, running an all-conditions career-best of 10.19 to earn runner-up honors in the 100m.
Casey Hood Jr. placed sixth in the 100 at 10.31 and also added a sixth-place finish in the 200m at 20.84.
Janiya Bowman produced another big day for the Blue and White in the short sprints, placing second in both the 100m (11.29) and 200m (23.14) with top-10 program all-conditions marks in both events.
Indiana State's 400m duo of
Ivan Weaver and
Trent Jones achieved podium finishes in the event, with Weaver clocking a career-best 46.72 to earn runner-up honors with a program top-five time. Jones also broke the 47-second mark in the event, crossing the line in 46.99 to take third.
The Sycamores also had a pair of all-conference relays on the final day, as the 4x100m quartet of
Krystian Dilosa,
Kyarra DeGroote,
Noelle Dilosa and Mehringer ran a season-best 46.17 to take silver in the event.
Caden Emmert, Jones,
Xavier Wills and Weaver earned bronze in the 4x400m with a time of 3:13.36, while the women's 4x400m team of DeGroote,
Jahnel Bowman,
Noelle Dilosa and
Halle Miller finished fifth at 3:52.18.
Mid-Distance/Distance
A day after making program history in the 10,000m,
Brittney Burak still had energy left in the tank for another strong performance on the track. Burak placed eighth in the 5000m at 17:31.53 to score in her second event of the weekend.
Nick Burns also put points on the board for the Blue and White in the 800m, with his time of 1:51.13 placing him seventh in his final meet for the Trees.
Jumps
Indiana State continued their dominance of the triple jump, with
Jahnel Bowman and
Justice Boston landing on the podium on the women's side and
Aaron Massiah earning all-conference accolades on the men's side. Bowman recorded a program top-five all-conditions mark of 12.72m (41-8.75) to repeat as champion in the event, with Boston recording a season-best mark of 12.04m (39-6) to finish third.
Massiah's leap of 15.15m (49-8.5) was his best in a Sycamore uniform and earned him a third-place finish in the event.
Jaden Smith also finished in the top five for the Trees in the triple jump with his best attempt measuring 14.87m (48-9.5).
Indiana State also had four athletes score in the high jump on Championship Sunday, with top-five finishes from
Noah Gilmore and
Essence Johnson leading the way for the group. Gilmore cleared 2.05m (6-8.75) to place fourth, while
Ethan Widenhoefer cleared a season-best 2.00m (6-6.75) to finish seventh. Johnson set a career best in her final meet by clearing 1.65m (5-5) to place fifth, with
Ellie Irwin clearing the same height to finish seventh.
Throws
Sycamore throwers continued to make a statement on Championship Sunday. The Trees scored in every throws event on the day, with four scoring big in the women's shot put.
Aliseonna Garnett finished as runner-up at 15.80m (51-10), with
Olivia Marshall (14.84m/48-8.25) and
Cora Williams (14.48m/47-6.25) launching massive career bests to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Emma Yoder also recorded a season-best performance of 13.77m (45-2.25) to finish seventh.
Garnett and Yoder returned to the podium once again in the afternoon, as the Sycamore duo took gold and silver in the discus. Garnett, the wire-to-wire regular season leader in the event, took home the title at 49.57m (162-7). Yoder, last year's champion in the event, was second at 49.50m (162-5).
Indiana State had a massive showing from a pair of freshmen in the men's discus, as both
Theo Thurmond and
Ben Brown set personal bests in the event to place in the top five. Thurmond's career-best mark of 54.39m (178-5) earned him a silver medal in the event and placed him in the top 10 in program history. Brown recorded a huge personal best by more than five meters in the event, with his toss of 53.06m (174-1) putting him fifth in the field.
Sloan Cox put together a big performance in the shot put for a second straight outdoor conference championship, earning a spot on the podium once again. Cox, who already ranks as one of the best in program history in the event, tallied a season-best mark of 18.42m (60-5.25) to place third.
Multis
Indiana State had a pair of decathletes set program top-10 marks on their way to all-conference accolades in the event.
Ty Newsom had strong Sunday performances in the 110m hurdles (15.30), discus (35.08m/115-1) and 1500m (4:45.51) on his way to a runner-up finish with 6618 points.
Zenon Rule also earned a spot on the podium with 6591 points, with top-two finishes on the final day in the 110m hurdles (15.11), discus (35.06m/115-0), pole vault (4.55m/14-11) and 1500m (5:07.59) to finish third overall. Both Newsom and Rule cracked the program top-10 charts, while
Jake Ottersbach battled through injury to complete the 10-event gauntlet and earn two points for the team total.
Ellie Irwin added a top-five finish in the heptathlon to go alongside her scoring performance in the high jump on Championship Sunday. Irwin produced the second-best long jump in the field at 5.38m (17-8) and also had a career-best in the javelin of 23.12m (75-10) on her way to a total score of 4570.
Sophie Hale placed sixth at 4537 points, with her best events on the final day being the long jump (5.22m/17-1.5) and 800m (2:34.43).
Kathryn Ison also picked up a point for the Blue and White by placing eighth, as her strong final day performances in the javelin (29.05m/95-3) and 800m (2:31.50) helped her score a total of 4314 points.
