Last Time Out
Indiana State throwers put together high-level performances for the Blue and White during the three-day Gibson Invitational, leading a strong effort for the Sycamores at the Gibson Track and Field Complex.

Emma Yoder and Cora Williams both posted program top-10 marks in the hammer throw, with Yoder and Garnett also adding season-best efforts in the discus and shot put, respectively. The Blue and White also picked up first-place performances from Janiya Bowman and Trent Jones in sprints events, Rachel Mehringer and Kieran Barnewall in the hurdles, and Hallie Mimbela in the 800m. Yoder, Williams, Ellie Irwin and the men's 4x100m relay set program top-10 marks over the course of the weekend.

As a team, the Sycamores finished first on the women's side and second on the men's side in a meet which featured more than 40 schools.

Run It Back
Indiana State junior hurdler Rachel Mehringer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for a third consecutive week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Mehringer continued her dominance of the 100m hurdles with another first-place finish at the Gibson Invitational, crossing the line in 13.10 to take first place by more than three-tenths of a second while setting a meet record in the process. She also clocked the second-fastest 200m time of her career at 25.22. Mehringer owns the four fastest 100m hurdles times in the MVC this season (13.04, 13.10, 13.20, 13.29) and has not lost a regular season 100m hurdles race since the 2025 Drake Relays. The Schnellville, Indiana, native currently owns the top 100m hurdles time in the conference by more than six-tenths of a second, while also ranking second in the Great Lakes Region, 12th in NCAA East Region Qualifying and 16th nationally in the event.

Mehringer's weekly honor is her third straight of the 2026 outdoor season and her 12th MVC Athlete of the Week award (three outdoor 2026, one indoor 2025-26, two outdoor 2025, three indoor 2024-25, one outdoor 2024, two indoor 2023-24). Indiana State athletes have now earned five MVC Athlete of the Week honors through the first four weekends of the 2026 outdoor season.

Strength In Numbers
Indiana State features a trio of event groups which rank in the top 15 nationally in the most recent set of USTFCCCA EventSquad rankings, with the Sycamore men's 110m hurdles, women's hammer throw and women's heptathlon groups earning high national marks at the midway point of the season.

The 110m hurdles contingent of Kieran Barnewall (14.02), Parker Doyle (14.07), Collin Forrest (14.07) and David Carnell (14.14) is the highest-ranked group among the Sycamore roster, currently ranking seventh nationally.

Indiana State's women's hammer throw quartet of Emma Yoder (61.35m/201-3), Cora Williams (58.81/192-11), Aliseonna Garnett (54.54m/178-11) and OIivia Marshall (52.60/172-6) also ranks in the top 10 nationally, checking in at ninth overall for a second straight week.

The Sycamores' heptathlon quartet of Ellie Irwin (4699), Sophie Hale (4534), Kathryn Ison (3846) and Emma Martin (3608) checked in at 11th nationally after their event debut at the Gibson Invitational. The high ranking comes despite Ison and Martin not scoring in the high jump.

Indiana State also has five additional event groups ranked in the top 25 nationally, with those being the women's shot put (22nd), women's pole vault (23rd), women's 100m hurdles (24th), men's 3000m steeplechase (24th) and women's discus (24th).

Rising Up The Ranks
Indiana State athletes accounted for five additions to the program top-10 charts at the Gibson Invitational, with a pair of the headline results coming in the hammer throw. Emma Yoder had the biggest update of the bunch, with her career-best mark of 61.35m (201-3) placing her fourth in program history with the best mark by a Sycamore since 2019. Cora Williams also moved up to seventh in program history in the event with a career-best toss of 58.81m (192-11).

Ellie Irwin made her heptathlon debut one to remember, climbing up to eighth in program history with her score of 4699. Irwin became the second current Sycamore on the program top-10 charts in the event, after Kathryn Ison cracked the top 10 in program history at the 2025 MVC Outdoor Championships.

Aliseonna Garnett continued her strong season in the throws events for the Sycamores, as the 2026 MVC Indoor Champion in the shot put registered an outdoor career-best mark of 15.42m (50-7.25) to move into sixth in program history in the event. Garnett, Yoder and Williams all currently occupy NCAA East Region Qualifying spots in their events, with Garnett (shot put and discus) currently on pace to compete in multiple events at the regional round.

Indiana State also produced a season-best effort in the men's 4x100m relay, with Casey Hood Jr., Will Riley, Parrish Hartley Jr. and Terrance O'Bannon teaming up to run the seventh-fastest time in program history at 40.12.

Back On The Blue Oval
Indiana State athletes have seen plenty of success at the Drake Relays in recent years, with the Sycamores often posting high marks at one of the premier track and field meets in the nation.

The Sycamores set a program record in the men's distance medley relay last season on the Blue Oval, while also adding program top-five marks in the men's 4x800m and women's 4x1600m relays.

Multiple Sycamore athletes also climbed their way up the program top-10 lists in individual events at last season's Drake Relays. Emma Gresham moved up to third in program history in the 5000m with a time of 16:30.04, while Erica Barker ran an outdoor career-best 16:46.54 to rank fifth in program history. Emerson Fayman also cracked the program top-10 in the 1500m, with his time of 3:46.78 ranking eighth in program history in the event, while Ryan Handy also added a career-best steeplechase time of 8:57.68, breaking the nine-minute mark for the first time in his career and moving up to fifth in program history.

Indiana State's last Drake Relays Champion white flag came in 2023, when the Sycamores placed first in the men's shuttle hurdle relay and women's 4x400m relay. The Trees will be among the favorites in the shuttle hurdle relay in this year's edition, with all four Sycamores in the event clocking times under 14.15 this season.
