TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State throwers put together high-level performances for the Blue and White during the three-day Gibson Invitational, leading a strong effort for the Sycamores at the Gibson Track and Field Complex.
Emma Yoder and
Cora Williams both posted program top-10 marks in the hammer throw, with Yoder and Garnett also adding season-best efforts in the discus and shot put, respectively. The Blue and White also picked up first-place performances from
Janiya Bowman and
Trent Jones in sprints events,
Rachel Mehringer and
Kieran Barnewall in the hurdles, and
Hallie Mimbela in the 800m. Yoder, Williams,
Ellie Irwin and the men's 4x100m relay set program top-10 marks over the course of the weekend.
As a team, the Sycamores finished first on the women's side and second on the men's side in a meet which featured more than 40 schools.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State has been one of the top hurdles teams in the nation this season, and this weekend was no different.
Rachel Mehringer continued her dominant season by cruising to a first place finish in the 100m hurdles at 13.10, while
Kieran Barnewall and
Parker Doyle clocked career-best 110m hurdles times of 14.02 and 14.07, respectively, to take the top two positions.
David Carnell also added a second-place finish for the Blue and White in the 400m hurdles with a career-best time of 53.66.
Sycamore sprinters also had a strong weekend of work on their home track, with
Trent Jones leading the way by placing first in the 400m at 47.18.
Janiya Bowman added a first-place finish for the Blue and White in the 200m with a time of 23.63 and also added a top-three finish in the 100m at 11.72, while
Terrance O'Bannon placed third in the 100m at 10.44.
Indiana State also added top-three finishes in a pair of relays Saturday. The Sycamore quartet of
Casey Hood Jr.,
Will Riley,
Parrish Hartley Jr. and O'Bannon clocked a 4x100m relay time of 40.12 to place second while moving up to seventh in program history in the event. Indiana State's 4x400m relay team of
Noelle Dilosa,
Halle Miller,
Hallie Mimbela and
Kai Dilosa placed third at 4:04.53.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Hallie Mimbela picked up Indiana State's lone first-place finish in the distance and mid-distance events with her time of 2:16.37 in the 800m, but the Sycamores still had multiple athletes record strong performances on their home track.
Halle Miller registered a second-place finish in the 1500m for the Blue and White with her time of 4:38.38, while
Ryan York placed third in the 5000m with his time of 15:11.07.
Eve Schurr made her first appearance in the steeplechase and placed in the top five with a time of 11:43.17.
Jumps
Noah Gilmore's strong season in the high jump continued, as the sophomore cleared 2.06m (6-9) to win the event.
Ellie Irwin placed fifth on the women's side Saturday, clearing 1.65m (5-5) just over 24 hours after completing her first heptathlon.
Indiana State had a trio of pole vaulters record top-three finishes Saturday afternoon.
Amy Luttrell cleared 3.89m (12-9) to finish second, while
Campbell Roberts cleared 3.74m (12-3.25) to finish third.
Lincoln Hulsey earned a top-three finish on the men's side with his season-best clearance of 4.96m (16-3.25), while
Landon Dobbs cleared the same height to finish fifth.
Throws
Indiana State's throwers posted a banner weekend at home, led by a pair of program top-10 marks in the hammer throw from
Emma Yoder and
Cora Williams. Yoder moved up to fourth in program history with her career-best toss of 61.35m (201-3), while Williams' mark of 58.81m (192-11) tied her with teammate
Niesha Anderson for seventh in program history in the event. Yoder also added a season-best mark of 47.45m (155-8) to place first in the invite section of the discus.
Aliseonna Garnett also had a big weekend for the Blue and White, posting season-best efforts of 15.42m (50-7.25) in the shot put and 54.54m (178-11). Garnett was second in the invite section of the shot put, while fellow Sycamore
Olivia Marshall placed third in the event with a season-best attempt of 14.44m (47-4.5).
Theo Thurmond put together his best performance in the hammer throw this season on the men's side, with his mark of 56.05m (183-11) placing him second in the event. Thurmond also posted the best mark among the Sycamore throwers in the discus (49.98m/164-0).
Sloan Cox competed in the invite section of the shot put, earning a top-five finish for the Sycamores with his season-best mark of 17.36m (56-11.5).
Multis
Ellie Irwin and
Sophie Hale registered strong performances for the Sycamores in their heptathlon debuts, with Irwin cracking the program top-10 charts in the process.
Irwin's score of 4699 placed her second in the field, with a strong performance in the high jump (1.70m/5-7) and career-best efforts in all three running events (14.57 100m hurdles, 25.92 200m, 2:31.82 800m). Hale's score of 4534 gave her a top-five finish in the field, with career-best efforts in all three running events (14.14 100m hurdles, 25.89 200m, 2:34.80 800m) and a high jump mark of 1.55m (5-1) to tie a career-best in the event.
Also recording a top-five finish in the men's decathlon was
Ty Newsom, who rode the momentum of a career-best opening day on his way to his best-ever decathlon score of 6476. Newsom recorded career-best marks in the 100m (10.81), 400m (49.03) and discus (35.24m/115-7), while his 1500m (4:56.06), high jump (1.87m/6-1.5) and long jump (6.56m/21-6.25) were all in the top five in the field.
Jake Ottersbach placed seventh in the field with 6245 points, despite only completing nine of the 10 events. Ottersbach had the top time in the 110m hurdles (14.64), while adding top-five performances in the 100m (11.07), 400m (50.43), long jump (6.86m/22-6.25) and discus (34.87m/114-5).
