INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana State won its fourth MVC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship in the last five seasons Monday, capping a dominant performance which saw the Sycamores atop the leaderboard nearly wire-to-wire inside the Fall Creek Pavilion.
The Sycamores set a program record for points at a women's indoor championship with 152, capturing their third straight indoor conference crown in the process. Indiana State finished third on the men's side with 109 points.
Aliseonna Garnett (shot put),
Reneisha Andrews (60m),
Casey Hood Jr. (60m) and
Jahnel Bowman all won individual conference titles for the Blue and White on Championship Monday.
Indiana State also racked up multiple MVC specialty awards for their efforts in Indianapolis.
Janiya Bowman was named Most Valuable Athlete after scoring 20 points across her three events, while
Jahnel Bowman was named Most Outstanding Field Athlete for her high national marks in the triple jump.
Olivia Marshall earned the MVC's Elite 18 Award for having the highest GPA among finalists at the conference championships.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State swept the 60m titles on Championship Monday, with multiple Sycamore sprinters running program top-10 times in their events.
Reneisha Andrews clocked a career-best time of 7.36 to win the women's 60m, with
Michelle McDonald (7.70) also scoring for the Sycamores. On the men's side,
Casey Hood Jr. won his third straight MVC 60m crown in a photo finish with his time of 6.68, with
Terrance O'Bannon also earning a top-five finish with his time of 6.78.
Janiya Bowman ran the best 200m time of her career Monday, with her 23.70 ranking second in program history and earning her a second-place finish. Hood Jr. pulled double-duty on the men's side, placing seventh in the men's 200m with his time of 21.58.
Also running a career-best for the Blue and White on Championship Monday was
Trent Jones in the 400m. Jones was one of two Sycamores to score in the event, with his career-best 47.43 ranking second in program history and placing him second in the field.
Ivan Weaver ran a time of 47.92 to finish sixth.
The Blue and White had six hurdles athletes score in Monday's championships, including three of the top four on the men's side.
Collin Forrest and
David Carnell earned top-three finishes with their times of 7.99 and 8.04, respectively, with
Parker Doyle (8.11) right behind in fourth to secure 19 points for the Sycamores. Sophi Hale matched her career best of 8.66 to place fifth on the women's side, with
Aubrey Runyon (8.67) sixth and
Rachel Mehringer (8.84) seventh.
Indiana State ran its best women's 4x400m relay time of the season Monday, with the quartet of
Jahnel Bowman,
Kyarra DeGroote,
Nevaeh Wren and
Janiya Bowman running a time of 3:45.93. The Sycamore 4x4 moved up to eighth in program history in the event. Indiana State's men's 4x400m relay of Jones,
Caden Emmert, Doyle and
Xavier Wills placed seventh at 3:17.80.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Emerson Fayman made the most of his championship opportunity Monday in the mile finals. Fayman used a big kick on the final lap to secure second place with a career-best time of 4:07.48, moving into the top 10 in program history in the process.
Gnister Grant finished 10th in the mile on the women's side, running a time of 5:00.50 in her first finals appearance.
The Blue and White had a pair score in the men's 800, with
Nick Burns leading the way with his sixth-place time of 1:53.42.
Xavier Wills finished eighth for the Sycamores with a time of 1:56.20.
Brittney Burak ran a career-best 3000m time of 9:46.79 to card a top-10 finish in the event. Burak's time also moved her up to sixth in program history in the event. Fayman had the top 3000 time for the Sycamores on the men's side, clocking an 8:28.55 just hours after his performance in the mile.
Jumps
Indiana State picked up big points in the triple jump Monday, with four Sycamores scoring in the event including the top two finishers on the women's side.
Jahnel Bowman took home her second straight conference title in the event, finishing with the top six marks in the field with her best coming in at 12.56m (41-2.5).
Justice Boston recorded her best attempt of the season at 12.05m (39-6.5) to finish second in the field, as the Blue and White secured 18 points in the event.
Jaden Smith earned all-conference honors in the men's triple jump with his mark of 14.90m (48-10.75), finishing third in the field.
Aaron Massiah was right behind in fourth with a mark of 14.78m (48-6), as the Sycamores earned 11 points in the event.
Throws
Aliseonna Garnett came through with the best shot put mark of her career, with her massive toss of 16.32m (53-6.5) topping the field by more than a full meter to secure her first career individual conference title. Garnett also moved to fifth in program history and into the top 40 nationally this season with her throw.
Niesha Anderson recorded a season-best 14.04m (46-0.75) throw to place fourth, with
Olivia Marshall (14.01m/45-11.75) right behind in fifth.
Emma Yoder (13.74m/45-1) closed out the scoring for the Sycamores in the event with her seventh-place finish, as Indiana State picked up 21 points in the event.
Sloan Cox also recorded his best shot put mark of the season on the men's side, with his toss of 18.11m (59-5) placing him fourth in the field.
Ben Brown reached finals in his first conference championship, finishing ninth with a top mark of 16.54m (54-3.25).
Multis
Jake Ottersbach led a strong performance for the Sycamore heptathletes, placing fourth with a two-day score of 5130. Ottersbach surpassed the 5000-point mark for the second time this season, with top-four finishes in the 60m hurdles (8.34), pole vault (4.25m/13-11.25) and 1000m (2:55.37) on the final day.
Zenon Rule cracked the program top-10 charts with a strong final day, using top-five finishes in the 60 hurdles (8.64) and pole vault (4.45m/14-7.25) to place sixth with a career-best 4880 points.
Ty Newsom also scored for the Sycamores in seventh at 4748 points, with a top-five finish in the 1000m (2:55.62) to close the day.
