TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State's final meet before the MVC Indoor Championships was a success, with Sycamore athletes setting multiple program top-10 marks including an MVC Record Saturday at the ISU Open.
Rachel Mehringer broke her own school and MVC record in the 60m hurdles in prelims, while Sycamore athletes won 18 events and recorded 44 top-three finishes inside the Indoor Track and Field Facility. Seven Sycamores set program top-10 marks over the course of the day, with Indiana State's hurdles, distance and jumps groups all represented among the program-best marks.

Sprints/Hurdles
Rachel Mehringer's MVC record in the 60m hurdles was the highlight of a strong day overall for the Indiana State sprints and hurdles group. Mehringer broke her own school and conference record with a prelims time of 8.16, then followed with an 8.26 in finals.
Ellie Irwin (8.66, prelims) and
Sophie Hale (8.69, finals) also ran career-best times in the event.
Not to be outdone, Indiana State had a banner day in the men's hurdles as well.
Kieran Barnewall clocked a Valley-leading time of 7.91, which also ranks seventh in program history.
Collin Forrest matched his career best of 7.93 in prelims and added a 7.95 in finals, while
David Carnell (7.97 finals, 7.99 prelims) and
Parker Doyle (7.98 prelims, 8.00 finals) were also under the 8-second mark.
Indiana State also swept the top spots in the 60m, with
Reneisha Andrews running a career-best 7.38 on the women's side to lead the way. Andrews' time ranks fourth in program history, with
Michelle McDonald (7.52) and
Krystian Dilosa (7.74) rounding out the top three.
Casey Hood Jr. returned to his winning ways on the men's side with a 6.62, while
Terrance O'Bannon placed second at 6.71.
McDonald also earned a first-place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.54, while
Kyarra DeGroote ran a 400m time of 58.06 to earn first-place finish.
Matthew Wray carded a third-place finish in the men's 200m at 22.50, while
Caden Emmert was third in the 400m at 51.26.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Indiana State's distance crew had another productive day, with
Gnister Grant's program top-10 time in the mile pacing the group. Grant ran a career-best 4:54.19 to place first in the meet and climb to eighth in program history in the event.
Eve Schurr added a third-place finish for the Trees with a time of 5:08.70.
Emerson Fayman also set a facility record in the mile, clocking a career-best time of 4:08.04, while
Ryan York (4:12.19) and
Jcim Grant (4:14.83) also added career-best times to place in the top five. The Sycamores also swept the top spots in the 800m, as
Jocqael Thorpe crossed the line in 1:54.27 on the men's side and
Hallie Mimbela ran a career-best time of 2:15.93 on the women's side.
Brandon Mueller added a second-place finish for the Blue and White in the 3000m with a career-best time of 8:32.97.
Robyn Schemel placed in the top five on the women's side with a time of 10:31.26.
Jumps
Indiana State had a pair of pole vaulters clear career-best marks to lead the way for the Sycamore jumps group.
Amy Luttrell and
Campbell Roberts both cleared 3.91m (12-10) to further cement their spots in the top 10 in program history in the event.
Landon Dobbs also earned a first-place finish on the men's side by clearing 4.96m (16-3.25), while
Dan O'Laughlin cleared 4.66m (15-3.5) to finish third.
The Blue and White also swept the top spots in the long jump, with
Janiya Bowman (5.79m/19-0) and
Jahnel Bowman (5.74m/18-10) occupying the top two spots on the women's side.
Aaron Massiah had a top attempt of 7.01m (23-0) to place first on the men's side, with
Piere Hill finishing third with a top mark of 6.72m (22-0.75).
Indiana State also added first-place finishes in the men's high jump and women's triple jump, with
Noah Gilmore and
Taylor Smith earning top spots in their events. Gilmore cleared 2.03m (6-8) to take the high jump crown, while Smith recorded a top mark of 11.47m (37-0.75) in the triple jump.
Ellie Irwin added a third-place finish in the high jump on the women's side with a clearance at 1.66m (5-5.75)
Throws
Indiana State's throwers kept things rolling with a sweep of the top spots in the shot put.
Sloan Cox recorded his best mark since the season opener at 17.55m (57-7) to place first on the men's side, with
Ben Brown (16.23m/53-3) and
Theo Thurmond (15.36m/50-4.75) rounding out the top three for the Trees.
Aliseonna Garnett broke the 15-meter mark for the second straight week on the women's side, placing first with her mark of 15.18m (49-9.75).
Olivia Marshall (14.63m/48-0) and
Cora Williams (14.10m/46-3.25) closed out the podium for the Blue and White.
Garnett also finished as the top collegiate athlete in the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 19.12m (62-8.75), breaking the 19-meter mark for the first time in her career.
Emma Yoder added a third-place finish in the event with a career-best toss of 18.47m (60-7.25). On the men's side,
Austin Grays recorded a career-best throw of 18.01m (59-1.25), his first time over the 18-meter barrier, on his way to a second-place finish. Brown placed third for the Sycamores with his mark of 17.27m (56-8).
