TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State softball continues its early-season tournament slate this weekend as the Sycamores travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to compete in the Memphis Tournament. ISU will face Morehead State, Memphis, Northern Illinois, and Kentucky across the multi-day event.
The Sycamores enter the weekend riding momentum after an impressive showing at the USF Tournament in Tampa. Indiana State recorded a dominant 11-1 run-rule victory over Yale and secured its first ACC win since March 12, 2023, with a victory over Boston College. The win also marked the program's first Power 4 triumph since defeating Purdue on March 21, 2023.
Offensively, Indiana State's lineup came alive in Tampa. The Sycamores produced a 13-hit performance against Yale, highlighted by a six-run fourth inning that broke the game open. Morgan Goodrich set the tone at the top of the lineup, while the middle of the order, including Madison Poulson and Mallory Chavez, delivered timely extra-base hits throughout the weekend.
In the circle, freshman Caylee Gaytan continued her dominant start to the season. The MVC Freshman of the Week went 2-0 last week with a 0.70 ERA across 20 innings, striking out 22 batters while allowing just two earned runs. Through her first 35.0 collegiate innings, Gaytan owns a 1.20 ERA and 0.89 WHIP, establishing herself as a key arm in the Sycamores' pitching staff.
Indiana State will now be tested again in Memphis with a balanced field that includes SEC opponent Kentucky, host Memphis, and regional matchups against Northern Illinois, and Morehead State.
The Sycamores will look to carry their offensive momentum and strong pitching performances into the weekend as they continue building toward conference play.
