ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State freshman Caylee Gaytan has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week following her dominant performances in the circle for the Sycamores this past week.
Gaytan went 2-0 across four appearances, allowing just 13 hits over 20.0 innings of work while striking out 22 batters. She posted a stellar 0.70 ERA, surrendering only two earned runs during the stretch, and consistently shut down opposing offenses to anchor Indiana State's pitching staff.
In her first 35.0 collegiate innings, Gaytan has been nothing short of impressive, compiling a 1.20 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. With three complete games and a save already to her name, the freshman has quickly established herself as a key piece of the Sycamores' rotation and a steady presence in high-leverage situations.
Gaytan was also ranked 7th per the NCAA D1 Softball for strikeouts as of February 16th.
This recognition marks Gaytan's first career MVC weekly honor and highlights Indiana State's continued impact in the Valley during the 2026 season.
