TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Softball continues early-season play this weekend as the Sycamores travel to Tampa, Florida, to compete in the USF Tournament, hosted by South Florida.
Indiana State enters the weekend coming off a competitive opening slate at the Stetson Tournament, where the Sycamores earned two wins and showcased strong pitching performances and timely offense against quality opponents.
The Sycamores opened the season with a shutout victory over UT Martin and highlighted the weekend with a 7–3 win over Seton Hall, powered by a balanced offensive attack and solid work in the circle. Indiana State received contributions throughout the lineup, with Madison Poulson delivering consistent run production and Mallory Chavez providing power at the plate.
In the circle, Indiana State showed depth early in the season. Lauren Sackett earned multiple wins during the opening weekend, while freshman Caylee Gaytan made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, closing out a key victory in relief against Seton Hall.
Indiana State will face a challenging field at the USF Tournament, continuing to test against non-conference competition early in the season, facing a strong field at the USF Tournament, with matchups scheduled against Kansas, South Florida, DePaul, Yale, and Boston College. The weekend provides another opportunity for the Sycamores to continue testing themselves as they build toward Missouri Valley Conference play later this spring.
The Sycamores open tournament action Friday and will play a full slate of games throughout the weekend in Tampa.
