Sycamores Secure ACC, Power 4 Win in Tampa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TAMPA, Fla. – Indiana State Softball put together one of its most impressive days in recent memory Saturday at the USF Tournament, earning a dominant 11-1 run-rule victory over Yale before knocking off Boston College to secure its first ACC and Power 4 win since 2023.

The Sycamores (6-5) exploded offensively across both contests, showcasing timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and steady pitching inside USF Softball Stadium.

Indiana State wasted no time setting the tone against Yale. The Sycamores capitalized on early Bulldog errors in the first inning, with Morgan Goodrich reaching base and later scoring on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly from Addie Burns to give ISU a 2-0 lead.

After Yale plated a run in the second, Indiana State responded with a decisive third inning. Burns delivered an RBI double to left center, Hannah Welch followed with an RBI single, and Claire Connelly added an RBI double to stretch the lead to 5-1.

The Sycamores blew the game open in the fourth. Mallory Chavez sparked the inning with a two-RBI double down the left-field line. Welch tripled to left center to drive in two more, and Isabelle Saylor capped the six-run frame with a ground-rule double to push the lead to 11-1.

Lauren Sackett earned the start in the circle, while Caylee Gaytan came on in relief to help seal the run-rule victory as ISU finished with 13 hits and did not commit an error defensively.

Indiana State carried its momentum into the matchup with Boston College, securing its first win over an ACC opponent since March 12, 2023 (3-0 vs. Pittsburgh at the Memphis Tournament) and its first Power 4 victory since March 21, 2023 (6-2 at Purdue).

The Sycamores again relied on timely offense and disciplined at-bats to pressure the Eagles throughout the contest. ISU's lineup continued to produce from top to bottom, while the pitching staff limited Boston College's opportunities and worked efficiently through key moments.

The victory marked a significant milestone for the program, signaling progress against Power 4 competition and highlighting the team's growth early in the 2026 campaign.
