FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Indiana State's contingent at the Tyson Invitational made the most of their time at the Tyson Invitational, setting multiple season-best and program top-10 marks Friday and Saturday against high-level competition.
Nearly every Sycamore event group that competed recorded at least one season-best or program top-10 mark, with
Janiya Bowman's MVC-leading 200m time of 23.77 and
Trent Jones' Valley-leading 400m time of 47.52 leading the way for the Blue and White
Notable Program Marks
Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State sprinters were responsible for the bulk of the Trees' top marks, with Valley-leading times from
Janiya Bowman and
Trent Jones pacing the efforts for the Blue and White. Bowman's time of 23.77 in the 200m moved her to second in program history in the event behind only Holli Hyche, arguably the most dominant sprinter in NCAA history. Jones' time of 47.52 in the 200m moved him up to third in program history in the event, just ahead of teammate
Ivan Weaver.
Jones and Weaver also accounted for half of Indiana State's 4x400m relay team, along with
Xavier Wills and
Parker Doyle, with the Trees clocking a season-best time of 3:13.79. Indiana State's 4x400m time Saturday ranked sixth in program history.
The Sycamores also had a program top-10 mark set in the 60m hurdles, as freshman
Aubrey Runyon recorded a career-best time of 8.65 to rank 10th in program history in the event.
Rachel Mehringer finished eighth overall with times of 8.29 in prelims and 8.31 in finals.
Indiana State also had a top-eight performance in the 60m finals, with
Terrance O'Bannon running times of 6.71 in prelims and 6.77 in finals
Mid-Distance/Distance
Indiana State's lone mid-distance athlete to compete in Fayetteville certainly made his mark against top competition.
Xavier Wills clocked the best 800m time of his career at 1:51.55, moving up to eighth in program history in the process.
Jumps
Indiana State had one jumps athlete who recorded a mark at Arkansas, with that being
Jahnel Bowman in the triple jump. Bowman continued her Valley-leading season with her second-best mark of the campaign at 12.52m (41-1).
