TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana State returns to Memorial Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 11, for one of its most important matches of the season as the Sycamores welcome Drake for a 1 p.m. Missouri Valley Conference showdown.
ISU enters the weekend at 7-2-3 overall and 2-1 in MVC play after earning a 1-0 victory over Evansville last week, while the Bulldogs come to Terre Haute at 8-3-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action following a 2-0 win over UIC.
The Sycamores continued their strong season with a hard-fought shutout against Evansville, using a balanced effort on both ends of the field to secure three valuable conference points. Indiana State controlled key stretches of play throughout the match and found the breakthrough in the second half when Peyton Wetzel delivered the game's lone goal. The Sycamore defense remained organized and disciplined down the stretch, limiting Evansville's opportunities and protecting the lead through the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Sofie Hansen once again played a key role in Indiana State's success, recording the clean sheet and helping anchor a defensive unit that has become one of the team's biggest strengths this season. The shutout marked another example of the consistency the Sycamores have displayed throughout the fall, combining strong defensive structure with timely scoring opportunities.
Indiana State has continued to build momentum through the opening months of the season, collecting seven victories and earning points in 2 of its first 3 MVC matches. The Sycamores have shown the ability to compete in a variety of situations, whether protecting a lead, responding to adversity, or grinding out results in conference play. Contributions have come from throughout the roster, giving ISU depth across the field and helping establish the program among the MVC's top contenders.
Drake enters Sunday's matchup tied for first place in the conference standings alongside Southern Illinois and Illinois State at 3-0 in MVC play. The Bulldogs most recently defeated UIC, 2-0, and have paired a productive attack with a disciplined defensive group throughout the season. Sunday's contest features two teams positioned near the top of the Valley standings as conference play begins to intensify.
For Indiana State, the opportunity is clear. A victory would provide another significant conference result and further strengthen the Sycamores' position in the MVC race. Backed by the home crowd at Memorial Stadium and carrying momentum from last week's shutout victory, ISU will look to continue its strong run of form against one of the league's top teams.
