TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State continued its strong start to Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating Evansville 1–0 at Memorial Stadium.
The Sycamores controlled much of the match, generating the majority of the dangerous chances while remaining organized defensively to secure another clean sheet in conference action. The result gives Indiana State another MVC victory and further momentum as the Valley schedule continues.
From the opening minutes, Indiana State established itself on the front foot. Meagyn Riffle tested the Evansville goalkeeper early with a shot on target, while Hailey Morgan added another quality opportunity later in the half. The Sycamores earned multiple corners and free kicks through sustained pressure, forcing Evansville to spend extended stretches defending in its own half. Despite several strong chances, Indiana State remained patient and was rewarded late in the first half when Peyton Wetzel broke through with the eventual game-winning goal, assisted by Avery Oergel and Meagyn Riffle.
Indiana State carried that momentum into the second half, continuing to dictate the flow of play and limiting Evansville's opportunities. The Sycamore defense remained composed throughout, backed by another steady performance from Sofie Hansen in goal. Additional chances from Riffle, Alex Lehnert, Avery Oergel, and Ashlyn Cohen helped keep pressure on the Purple Aces, while Indiana State's depth provided energy and stability throughout the final 45 minutes. The Sycamores defended confidently down the stretch to preserve the one-goal advantage and earn an important conference result at home.
