TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Director of Athletics
Nathan Christensen announced a contract extension for head women's swimming and diving coach
Josh Christensen. The deal was announced on Wednesday afternoon and will run through 2027-28.
Under Christensen's leadership, Indiana State just recorded one of its most successful seasons in program history. The Sycamores won the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships scoring a program-record 1,440.5 points in claiming the first MVC Championship in program history. The Sycamores trailed by 10 points heading into the conference final day, but strong performances in all events, including five individual event winners and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay title guided the Sycamores to the 109.5-point win over Southern Illinois (1331) to take the team title.
"We are thrilled to extend Josh's tenure here at Indiana State,"
Nathan Christensen said. "The results in the pool and on the recruiting trail have been truly remarkable. Under his direction, our program constantly sets new standards, and we can't wait to support his efforts to continue the upward trajectory of our program."
The Sycamores continued their postseason success this spring as Indiana State posted its highest finish in program history at the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)'s National Invitational Championship. Indiana State finished ninth overall at the CSCAA NIC accumulating 334 points. A program-record 14 Sycamores finished inside the Top 20, advancing to either the A-Final or B-Finals over the three days including Top Five finishes in the 1000 Free (
Erin Cummins), 1650 Free (
Claire Parsons), and 400 Free Relay.
""I'm very thankful for the support Nathan and President Godard have shown for our program over the last year," head coach
Josh Christensen said. "This season was a momentous one and so many people have played a role in helping our program grow to this point. We're excited to use this momentum to keep reaching new heights, with the goal of becoming the best version possible of Indiana State Swimming & Diving."
Overall, 21 new Indiana State standards were set or broken multiple times over the course of the 2025 season as the Sycamores rewrote the record book once again. There were 73 new entries into Indiana State's Top 10 All-Time Performance Lists as the Sycamores continue to progress under Christensen's tenure.
The Sycamores have posted a 59-23 overall record in dual meet competition over the regular season. Overall, 96 Indiana State swimmers and divers have earned All-Conference accolades, including 16 at the recent 2025 MVC Championships.
