Davidson signs free agent deal with American Association of Professional Baseball’s Chicago Dogs

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State pitcher Zach Davidson has signed a free agent deal with the American Association of Professional Baseball's Chicago Dogs and is expected to join the team this evening as a fifth Sycamore baseball player from the 2024 roster signed a professional contract.

Davidson joins Randal Diaz (Washington Nationals), Luke Hayden (Cincinnati Reds), Grant Magill (Chicago White Sox), and Adam Pottinger (Joliet Slammers – Frontier League) marking the fifth Indiana State member of the 2024 team to sign to play professional baseball.

The Hartsburg, Mo. native earned American Baseball Coaches Association Second Team All-Region, First Team All-MVC, and 2024 MVC All-Tournament accolades after a dominant stretch out of the bullpen for the Sycamores in the 2024 season.

Over his final five appearances (four relief, one start), Davidson posted a 4-1 record and 1.04 ERA over a team-high 26.0 innings, while adding a 43:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a .183 opponent batting average. The left-hander highlighted the month with a 10-strikeout game over 4.1 innings against Evansville, while adding 14 strikeouts over a 7.1-inning relief outing in the MVC Tournament against Murray State.

Davidson wrapped up the 2024 season with a 5-2 record and 2.56 ERA over 23 appearances. He went 56.1 innings with three saves, while finishing second on the team and fourth in the Missouri Valley with 83 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .172 against the Sycamore reliever on the year. He recorded 14 multi-inning appearances on the season and 18 appearances with multiple strikeouts on the year.

Davidson was an elite asset for the Sycamores since his arrival on campus over the course of his two seasons at Indiana State. He made 40 career appearances on the mound with a 2.22 ERA over 89.0 innings, while adding a 133:34 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He posted a 9-3 career record with five saves, while allowing opponents to hit just .195 from the plate.

Davidson boasts the two highest strikeouts per nine inning marks in Indiana State's Division I history including a school-record 14.00 mark in the 2023 season, while holding the Sycamores' career mark in the same statistical category averaging striking out 13.55 batters per nine innings over the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
