ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Nine members of the Indiana State swimming and diving team were recognized on the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Scholar Athlete Team as honored by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The nine members of the Sycamores include two student-athletes boasting 4.0 GPAs (
Jordan Gruce, Ali Pearson), while three additional athletes have posted a 3.90 cumulative GPA or higher.
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to have competed in the MVC Swimming and Diving Championships and maintain either a 3.5 grade-point average and obtain all-conference honors, achieve a 3.7 grade-point average and receive All-Conference Honorable Mention, or maintain a 3.9 grade-point average and participate in the MVC championship (including non-scorers).
The Missouri Valley Conference had an outstanding 66 student-athletes on the scholar-athlete team this season for swimming and diving. In the 2022-23 season, 12 of these scholar-athletes had a perfect 4.00 GPA. During the 2023 Swimming and Diving Championships, the league recognized Northern Iowa's Faith Larsen as the Elite 17 Award winner.
The Sycamores recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference are listed below:
Indiana State swimming and diving finished second overall in the 2024 MVC Swimming & Diving Championships after posting a program-record 1294.5 points in the Sycamores' second consecutive runner-up result at the conference's premier meet. The Sycamores set 11 new school records over the four-day event in Evansville at the Deaconess Aquatic Center.
Overall, 14 Sycamores received All-Conference recognition highlighted by
Erin Cummins (500 Free),
Claire Parsons (500 Free & 1650 Free),
Alexandria Cotter (200 IM & 400 IM), and
Kaleigh Kelley (100 Fly) all earning First Team All-Conference honors after finishing in the top three in an individual A-Final.
Ten additional Sycamores also competed in the A-Finals over the Missouri Valley Championships finishing inside the top-eight in their specific events.
